Job Overview
We are seeking a Senior Design Technician to support the delivery of projects within our Domestic team, across cleanroom, pharmaceutical, and temperature-controlled environments.
In this role, the Senior Design Technician will work closely with the Contracts Manager to deliver projects from design through to construction. While the Contracts Manager will lead client coordination and commercial aspects, the Senior Design Technician will take responsibility for the technical delivery, coordination, and quality of design outputs.
The role requires a high level of ownership across design packages, strong coordination capability, and the ability to support site delivery, ensuring alignment between design intent and installation.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Delivery & Ownership
- Lead the production of detailed models and drawings for assigned project areas.
- Take ownership of design packages from concept through to construction stage.
- Ensure all deliverables meet project standards, programme requirements, and quality expectations.
- Support the Contracts Manager by ensuring design outputs align with project scope and delivery requirements.
- Develop a thorough understanding of project requirements, specifications, and constraints, particularly within regulated environments such as cleanrooms and pharmaceutical facilities.
Coordination & Problem Solving
- Lead coordination efforts for assigned areas, including clash detection and resolution.
- Work closely with internal teams, subcontractors, and suppliers to ensure coordinated design solutions.
- Identify and resolve design issues proactively, particularly those arising from site conditions or specialist requirements.
- Support integration of models into federated project environments.
- Collaborate with the Contracts Manager to ensure coordination aligns with programme and construction sequencing.
Quality Assurance & Standards
- Ensure high standards of QA/QC across all design outputs.
- Review and check work produced by junior and intermediate technicians.
- Maintain consistency and adherence to company BIM standards and project requirements.
- Ensure compliance with relevant regulations, specifications, and industry standards, particularly in controlled environments.
Mentorship & Team Support
- Provide guidance, mentoring, and technical support to junior team members.
- Assist in developing team capability and improving workflows.
- Promote best practices in modelling, coordination, and documentation.
- Contribute to a positive and collaborative team environment.
Site & Project Support
- Support site teams with complex design queries and technical issues.
- Attend site meetings and coordinate with site teams as required.
- Ensure alignment between design intent and site installation.
- Assist in resolving site-driven design challenges and developing practical solutions.
- Support verification of installed works where required.
Collaboration with Contracts Management
- Work closely with the Contracts Manager to ensure seamless project delivery.
- Support the Contracts Manager by providing technical input for client discussions and decision-making.
- Ensure design deliverables align with programme, procurement, and installation requirements.
- Act as the technical counterpart to the Contracts Manager.
Competencies & Experience Required
Technical Competencies
- Relevant qualification in construction, engineering, or design.
- 5+ years' experience in a design environment.
- Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD.
- Experience with Revit an advantage.
- Experience with BIM coordination tools an advantage (Navisworks, BIM360, etc.).
- Solid understanding of construction detailing and project delivery.
- Experience or exposure to cleanroom, pharmaceutical, or controlled environments is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of relevant regulations and standards within these sectors is advantageous.
