In this role, you will play a key part in ensuring the smooth and efficient delivery of day-to-day airfreight operations. You will provide structure and direction to the team, oversee operational performance and act as a key point of escalation for both internal and customer-related matters.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and coordinate daily workloads, ensuring tasks are allocated effectively across the team.
- Organise holiday and absence cover, as well as support planning during peak operational periods.
- Ensure urgent and time-sensitive shipments are appropriately prioritised.
- Monitor customer KPIs and ensure agreed service levels and expectations are consistently achieved.
- Identify potential service issues at an early stage and take appropriate action to maintain performance.
- Support performance recovery initiatives where additional operational focus is required.
- Maintain clear and accurate work instructions covering customer accounts, lanes and operational processes.
- Identify process gaps and drive consistency and standardisation across the team.
- Act as the first point of escalation for operational and customer queries, ensuring issues are resolved promptly and professionally.
- Support the team in managing complex operational situations and customer requirements.
- Identify scope creep and ensure activities remain aligned with agreed customer requirements.
- Highlight operational inefficiencies, cost risks and uncharged activities to support commercial control.
- Communicate operational changes clearly and ensure new processes are implemented effectively.
- Support the team through periods of change, providing feedback and insight to management.
- Identify training requirements and support the ongoing development of team members.
- Promote cross-training and knowledge sharing to build resilience within the operation.
- Contribute to branch and departmental meetings by providing operational updates, performance insights and recommendations for improvement.
About You
The successful candidate will ideally have:
- Previous experience in a Team Leader, Supervisor or senior operational position within airfreight, sea freight or a similar logistics environment.
- Strong knowledge of import and export processes and international freight operations.
- Proven ability to lead, motivate and support a team within a fast-paced environment.
- A structured and detail-oriented approach, with a strong focus on quality, accuracy and operational performance.
- Confidence managing escalations, resolving issues and making effective decisions under pressure.
- Strong commercial awareness and an understanding of customer service agreements and KPIs.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- A proactive approach to identifying process improvements and driving consistent ways of working.
- The ability to build strong relationships with customers, colleagues and internal stakeholders.
