Engineering Maintenance Manager
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the delivery of maintenance objectives and performance targets aligned with overall business and site goals.
- Manage the day-to-day operations of the maintenance function, including planning, prioritising, and scheduling maintenance activities to support production requirements with minimal disruption.
- Provide leadership, guidance, and technical support to the engineering team during breakdowns, critical repairs, and planned maintenance activities.
- Develop and implement preventative and predictive maintenance strategies to improve equipment reliability, reduce downtime, and minimise operational costs.
- Manage maintenance budgets and expenditure, ensuring effective cost control and adherence to approval processes.
- Oversee the performance and utilisation of external contractors and service providers, ensuring value for money and high service standards.
- Ensure all engineering and maintenance activities comply with food safety, quality, environmental, and health & safety standards, including relevant site procedures and regulatory requirements.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities to enhance operational performance, reliability, and efficiency.
- Establish, monitor, and report on key maintenance KPIs, implementing corrective actions where required.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, including work orders, schedules, compliance documentation, and performance reports.
- Support and lead site audits, inspections, and customer visits as required.
- Manage engineering stores and spare parts inventory, ensuring adequate stock levels and effective inventory control processes.
- Coordinate with procurement teams to ensure the timely sourcing of spare parts, tools, and engineering materials.
- Develop business cases and capital expenditure (CAPEX) proposals for engineering improvements and investment projects.
- Act as the primary site contact for engineering projects and support project delivery from concept through completion.
- Promote effective communication within the engineering team and across site functions through regular meetings and performance reviews.
- Support employee development through training, coaching, mentoring, and performance management.
- Collaborate with utilities and operations teams to optimise the performance and cost efficiency of site services, including electricity, water, compressed air, and refrigeration systems.
Candidate Requirements
- Minimum 5 years' experience in a senior engineering or maintenance management role within a manufacturing environment.
- Experience within food manufacturing or other highly regulated production environments is desirable.
- Completed apprenticeship in a mechanical or electrical discipline and/or a third-level qualification in Engineering.
- Proven experience managing and developing engineering or maintenance teams.
- Demonstrated success in delivering engineering projects within complex industrial environments.
- Strong understanding of project management principles and methodologies.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills.
- Strong people management capabilities, with the ability to motivate, coach, and develop teams.
- Highly organised, proactive, and capable of managing multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Strong IT skills, including maintenance management systems and standard business software applications.
