Health & Safety Officer
Overview
The Health & Safety officer is responsible for ensuring full legal and organisational compliance with health and safety requirements across manufacturing and cold storage operations. The role provides leadership, governance, and continuous improvement of safety systems within a high-risk industrial environment.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Ensuring compliance with all applicable health and safety legislation, corporate standards, and customer requirements.
- Developing, implementing, and continuously improving site safety systems, policies, procedures, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Leading accident, incident, and near-miss investigations, ensuring statutory reporting requirements are met and corrective actions are effectively implemented and closed out.
- Managing unsafe acts and unsafe conditions reporting processes, including continuous improvement initiatives and trend analysis.
- Acting as the primary site contact for regulatory inspections, insurance assessments, and customer audits relating to health and safety.
- Managing safety training programmes, employee inductions, contractor controls, permit-to-work systems, and competency records.
- Overseeing emergency preparedness and response arrangements, including fire safety systems, refrigeration-related alarms, emergency drills, and response teams.
- Chairing safety meetings, reporting on safety performance metrics, and driving continuous improvement initiatives.
- Providing leadership and coaching to health and safety personnel, management teams, and operational staff to promote a positive safety culture.

Qualifications & Experience
- Recognised qualification in Occupational Health & Safety (e.g. NEBOSH, IOSH, QQI Level 6 or higher, or equivalent).
- Proven experience managing health and safety within a high-risk industrial environment.
- Strong working knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation and regulatory requirements.
