    QA Automation Engineerm - Contract

    Cork Contract Competitive

    About the job

    Role Overview

We are seeking a seasoned QA Automation Engineer for a high-impact contract role with one of our key clients based in Cork. This project focuses on the robust automation of a complex microservices architecture.

The ideal candidate isn't just a "UI tester"; you are someone who understands the nuances of the transport layer and can leverage Cypress to its full potential for API testing, ensuring our backend services are resilient, performant, and secure.

    Key Responsibilities

    • API Automation: Design, develop, and maintain automated test suites specifically for RESTful APIs using the Cypress framework.

    • Framework Enhancement: Optimize existing Cypress frameworks to handle complex API workflows, authentication headers, and data-driven testing.

    • Integration: Incorporate API tests into the CI/CD pipeline (Jenkins/GitHub Actions/Azure DevOps) to ensure "shift-left" quality.

    • Defect Management: Identify, document, and track software defects using Jira, working closely with developers to ensure rapid resolution.

    • Collaboration: Participate in Sprint planning and grooming to provide technical input on testability and effort estimation.

    • Reporting: Generate clear, actionable quality reports and metrics for stakeholders.

    Technical Requirements

    • Cypress Expert: Proven experience using Cypress for more than just UI-specifically using cy.request() for deep API validation.

    • JavaScript/TypeScript: Strong proficiency in writing clean, modular code.

    • API Fundamentals: Deep understanding of RESTful architecture, JSON/XML schemas, HTTP status codes, and CRUD operations.

    • Tooling: Experience with Postman (for initial exploration) and Newman.

    • Version Control: Proficiency with Git (branching, merging, pull requests).

    • Database: Ability to write SQL queries to validate data persistence and integrity.

    Soft Skills & Local Context

    • Communication: Excellent verbal and written English is essential for collaborating with the Cork-based engineering team.

    • Self-Starter: As a contractor, you are expected to hit the ground running with minimal supervision.

    • Problem Solver: A "break-it" mindset with the professional tact to help the team "fix-it."
