Telematics Senior Project Manager Tokyo - Automotive

You will lead projects for local automotive OEM customers, managing the complete operational lifecycle while ensuring Quality, Cost and Time (QCT) targets are achieved. The role combines project execution, budget and scope management, resource planning, customer engagement and cross-functional team leadership.

Working from a local development hub, you will collaborate directly with automotive OEM customers and technical teams to deliver telematics solutions tailored to the requirements of the Japanese market. Key Responsibilities

• Plan, execute and monitor assigned automotive telematics projects throughout the complete operational lifecycle.
• Take responsibility for achieving key project KPIs across Quality, Cost and Time.
• Manage project resources and coordinate cross-functional teams to support successful project delivery.
• Lead, evaluate and develop project team members while supporting their ongoing professional development.
• Serve as a key customer interface, leading progress reporting, technical discussions and issue resolution with automotive OEM clients.
• Manage project budgets, scope definitions and resource allocation.
• Coordinate and manage engineering change requests throughout the project lifecycle.
• Monitor project progress and drive actions to maintain quality, cost and schedule targets.
• Prepare and maintain required project documentation.
• Coordinate with internal governance committees and investment planning teams.
• Work closely with technical and business stakeholders to ensure project objectives remain aligned with customer requirements.

Required Skills and Qualifications

Experience:

• Minimum 3 years of project management experience in embedded systems development or smartphone-related system development.
• Proven experience managing project budgets, resource allocation and project scope.
• Experience managing technical development projects involving multiple stakeholders and project requirements.
• Bachelor's degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science or a related technical field.

Soft Skills:

• Strong leadership and team management capabilities with the ability to guide and develop cross-functional project members.
• Excellent customer-facing communication skills for managing progress updates, technical discussions and issue resolution.
• Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage budgets, resources, scope and multiple project priorities.
• Ability to coordinate effectively between customers, technical teams and internal governance stakeholders.
• Strong ownership and a results-oriented approach to achieving project quality, cost and schedule objectives.

Language Requirements:

• Japanese: Fluent / Business level
• English: Fluent / Business level
• Ability to organise and lead customer meetings in Japanese and communicate technical information and internal project reporting effectively in English.

Preferred Skills & Qualifications

• Project management experience specifically within automotive telematics product development.
• Professional experience in the automotive industry, ideally within a Tier 1 supplier.
• Knowledge or practical experience in general management and financial planning.
• Experience working with automotive OEM customers on technical development projects.
