ADAS System Validation Engineering Lead - Tokyo

    About the job

Are you an experienced ADAS Validation Engineer or Automotive Systems Testing Specialist looking to take the next step into technical leadership in Japan's automotive industry?

Join a world-leading automotive technology group in Tokyo as an ADAS System Validation Engineering Lead, where you will oversee system integration, verification, and validation activities for next-generation Driver Monitoring Systems (DMS), Occupant Monitoring Systems (OMS), and in-cabin sensing technologies.

In this position, you will define and execute comprehensive validation strategies across Software-in-the-Loop (SIL), Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL), and vehicle-level testing, ensuring advanced camera and radar systems meet demanding performance, safety, and quality requirements.

Working closely with global engineering teams, technical project managers, and major automotive manufacturers, you will lead validation sub-projects, mentor technical specialists, and drive successful delivery against Quality, Cost, and Delivery (QCD) objectives.

This opportunity is ideal for engineers with experience in ADAS system validation, automotive camera testing, embedded systems, or automotive functional safety who want to lead technically challenging projects shaping the future of intelligent vehicle safety.

    Key Responsibilities

    • ADAS System Validation Strategy: Define, plan, and execute comprehensive system integration, verification, and validation strategies for advanced driver-assistance systems and in-cabin sensing technologies.
    • SIL, HIL, and Vehicle-Level Testing: Lead validation activities across Software-in-the-Loop, Hardware-in-the-Loop, and real-vehicle testing environments, consolidating results to assess overall system performance.
    • Camera and Radar Validation: Develop and implement testing strategies for automotive camera and radar technologies, focusing on detection accuracy, system robustness, and compliance with applicable safety assessment requirements.
    • Technical Team Leadership: Direct, coordinate, and mentor System Test Leads and System Integration Test Leads, ensuring effective execution of validation activities across multiple engineering teams.
    • Test Environment Development: Establish, maintain, and improve system testing environments that support reliable verification and comply with relevant automotive functional safety requirements.
    • Failure Analysis and Risk Management: Apply Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) to identify sensor-related failure modes, evaluate technical risks, and implement targeted validation methods.
    • Project Planning and Resource Management: Coordinate validation schedules, technical resources, and testing budgets to ensure alignment with project milestones and business objectives.
    • Engineering Change Management: Collaborate with technical project managers to assess engineering changes, evaluate their impact on validation activities, and adjust testing plans, budgets, and timelines.
    • Performance Reporting and KPI Management: Monitor validation performance indicators, consolidate testing outcomes, and communicate project progress, technical risks, and results to senior management.
    • Automotive OEM Collaboration: Coordinate directly with automotive customers on joint testing activities, technical evaluations, and validation requirements.
    • Domestic Testing Activities: Participate in domestic testing evaluations and technical visits, including approximately weekly day trips when required.

    Required Skills and Qualifications

    Experience:
    • 3+ years of professional experience in automotive system validation, verification, or system testing, preferably involving safety-critical automotive electronics or advanced vehicle technologies.
    • Demonstrated experience in the development, testing, or verification of automotive camera systems or Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS).
    • Proven experience in test planning, validation scheduling, progress tracking, and technical risk management within automotive engineering projects.
    • Practical understanding of system integration, verification, and validation processes used in automotive product development.
    • Ability to coordinate testing activities across multiple engineering disciplines and manage validation requirements throughout the development lifecycle.
    • Willingness to travel domestically for testing and technical evaluations, including approximately one day trip per week when required.
    Soft Skills:
    • Strong analytical and systematic problem-solving abilities, with the capacity to investigate complex technical issues and identify effective solutions.
    • Demonstrated technical leadership and coordination skills, with the ability to guide engineering teams and manage validation priorities.
    • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills when collaborating with automotive customers, international engineering teams, and project managers.
    • Strong organisational abilities, including the capacity to manage schedules, technical risks, and multiple validation activities.
    • Proactive and results-oriented mindset, with a commitment to maintaining high standards of engineering quality and system reliability.
    • Ability to communicate technical findings clearly through structured reports, performance updates, and engineering discussions.
    Language Requirements:
    • Japanese: Business-level proficiency for technical discussions, requirements alignment, and coordination with Japanese automotive customers and local engineering teams.
    • English: Business-level proficiency for collaboration with international engineering teams, technical reporting, and cross-border project communication.

    Preferred Skills & Qualifications

    • ADAS Development and Validation: Experience developing or validating Advanced Driver Assistance Systems, Driver Monitoring Systems (DMS), or Occupant Monitoring Systems (OMS).
    • Camera and Radar Technologies: In-depth knowledge of automotive camera systems, radar-based sensing, and in-cabin monitoring technologies.
    • Computer Vision and Signal Processing: Experience or technical understanding of image processing, computer vision, radar signal processing, or sensor performance evaluation.
    • SIL and HIL Testing: Hands-on experience with Software-in-the-Loop, Hardware-in-the-Loop, or vehicle-level system validation methodologies.
    • Embedded Systems and Integration: Understanding of automotive embedded systems architecture, system integration, and verification processes.
    • Automotive SPICE (ASPICE): Familiarity with automotive development process standards, particularly SYS.4 (System Integration and Integration Test) and SYS.5 (System Qualification Test).
    • Automotive Safety Standards: Knowledge of relevant automotive safety regulations, performance assessment frameworks, or testing protocols, including Euro NCAP and Global Technical Regulations (GTR).
    • Engineering Risk Analysis: Experience using FMEA or similar structured methodologies to identify potential failures and strengthen system validation strategies.
