Morgan McKinley is exclusively partnering with a key client in Cork to recruit an experienced Transport Operations Manager to lead a large-scale transport and distribution operation. This is a senior operational role requiring strong leadership capability in driver management, fleet performance, and transport efficiency within a fast-paced logistics environment.
The successful candidate will take full responsibility for the day-to-day management of transport operations, ensuring high service levels, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvements in fleet utilisation and operational efficiency.
Lead and manage daily transport operations to ensure the efficient and timely delivery of goods.
Oversee route planning, vehicle scheduling, and operational workflows to maximise fleet productivity.
Monitor operational KPIs including delivery performance, fleet utilisation, cost per drop, and fuel consumption.
Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance operational performance and service levels.
Manage and lead a large team of drivers and transport supervisors.
Ensure effective driver scheduling and compliance with driver hours regulations and Working Time Directive requirements.
Conduct regular performance reviews, coaching, and driver engagement initiatives.
Promote a strong culture of safety, professionalism, and customer service.
Manage employee relations issues and support the development of a high-performing transport team.
Monitor fleet utilisation, fuel consumption, maintenance schedules, and vehicle downtime.
Work closely with maintenance providers to ensure fleet reliability and roadworthiness.
Implement initiatives to improve fuel efficiency and reduce transport operating costs.
Analyse operational data to identify opportunities for performance and cost improvements.
Ensure full compliance with transport legislation, tachograph requirements, and road safety standards.
Maintain high health and safety standards across the transport operation.
Lead incident investigations and implement preventative measures.
Ensure all transport activities align with regulatory and company policies.
Work closely with warehouse, planning, and customer service teams to ensure seamless logistics operations.
Support operational planning during peak trading periods and business growth phases.
Maintain strong relationships with key internal stakeholders and external service providers.
Experience
Significant experience managing transport operations within a high-volume logistics or distribution environment.
Proven track record of managing large driver teams and improving driver performance.
Strong experience driving fleet utilisation, fuel efficiency, and operational productivity.
Solid knowledge of transport legislation, driver hours regulations, and tachograph compliance.
Experience working with transport management systems and operational reporting tools.
Qualifications
CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence) qualification desirable.
Relevant qualifications in logistics, transport, or operations management advantageous.
