Role Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented, highly organized Financial Accountant to lead day-to-day financial accounting processes, tax compliance, and the monthly reporting cycle. Reporting directly to the Finance Director, you will play a central role in delivering accurate management accounts under tight deadlines, managing high-value credit risk, and supporting junior team members.
Key Responsibilities
- Financial Management & Reporting: Prepare full management accounts (Trial Balance, P&L Account, and Balance Sheet) to strict monthly deadlines for Finance Director review.
- Balance Sheet Control: Supervise and perform monthly reconciliations across fixed asset registers, prepayments, leases, accruals, and general balance sheet accounts.
- Revenue Recognition: Conduct detailed analysis and revenue recognition calculations tailored to project-based and contract manufacturing workflows.
- Credit Control: Manage accounts for high-value contracts, raising customer invoices, addressing queries, issuing monthly statements, and closely monitoring customer credit relative to insured limits.
- Taxation & Compliance: Ensure full compliance with statutory tax guidelines by accurately preparing and submitting VAT, PAYE, and relevant contract-based tax returns on time.
- Audit Management: Prepare annual audit files, serve as the primary point of contact for external auditors, and fulfill all audit-related requests.
- Payroll Coverage: Act as backup for processing weekly payroll for factory and office employees.
- Team Guidance & Ad-hoc Support: Provide day-to-day technical guidance to junior accounts staff (AP, AR, payroll), and deliver ad-hoc financial reporting to senior management as required.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Professional Certification: Qualified Accountant holding CPA, ACA, ACCA, or equivalent professional qualification.
- Industry Experience: Strong financial control background within standard commercial, manufacturing, or commercial project-based sectors.
- Taxation Expertise: Demonstrated knowledge of statutory revenue compliance rules and relevant local tax filings.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in standard accounting software (e.g., Sage, ERP systems), reporting tools (e.g., Power BI), and intermediate to advanced Excel.
- Core Competencies: Exceptional time management, strong attention to detail, clear communication, and proven capability operating within a deadline-driven environment.
