    Job Title: Utilities Engineer

    Location: Onsite - 5 days per week, Athlone

    THE ROLE

    Morgan McKinley is delighted to bring an exciting opportunity to market on behalf of our client, a high-profile pharmaceutical company.

    We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Utilities Engineer to join our client's team based in Athlone. This is a full-time onsite position offering an excellent opportunity to contribute to the operation and continuous improvement of essential utility systems within a regulated GMP environment.

    The role will focus primarily on Black Utilities, including Potable and Well Water, Water Treatment, Boilers, Refrigeration, Heat Pumps, Cooling Towers, Fire Safety Systems, Wastewater Treatment, and Low Pressure Hot Water systems. The successful candidate will be responsible for both the ongoing maintenance of installed utilities and the introduction of new systems, reporting directly to the Head of Maintenance.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    The Utilities Engineer will:

    • Participate in and support the introduction of new utility projects in collaboration with onsite and corporate Project Management teams.
    • Develop and implement maintenance strategies for utility systems, including component lists, FMECA, spare parts strategies, and SAP maintenance routines.
    • Ensure compliance with all quality, safety, and environmental regulations, including Legionella control, insurance inspections, and EPA licence requirements relevant to Black Utilities.
    • Create and deliver technical training materials to upskill maintenance crafts in utility system operations.
    • Oversee management of utility-related contracts and service providers.
    • Contribute to site-wide energy management and sustainability initiatives.
    • Ensure adherence to relevant corporate standards, including those set by the client.
    • Act as the site representative in corporate Black Utilities process groups.

    ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:

    • Level 8 Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or equivalent technical discipline.
    • A minimum of 7 years' experience managing utilities within a regulated GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) environment.
    • Proven understanding of utility systems such as boilers, HVAC, water treatment, and refrigeration.
    • Strong working knowledge of Building Management Systems (BMS), Computerised Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS), and reliability-centred maintenance practices.
    • Demonstrated continuous improvement mindset and proactive problem-solving skills.
    • Excellent communication, planning, and organisational skills.

    DESIRABLE ATTRIBUTES

    • Working knowledge of electrical systems and clean utilities would be a distinct advantage.
    • Experience with sustainability and energy optimisation projects.
    • Knowledge of regulatory standards and inspection readiness in a pharmaceutical setting.
