Principal Electrical & Instrumentation Engineer - Biotech Start-Up Facility
Location: Limerick, Ireland
A brand-new, next-generation biotech manufacturing facility in Limerick is seeking an experienced Principal Electrical & Instrumentation Engineer to lead the site's instrumentation and calibration programs. This is a rare opportunity to join a state-of-the-art operation during its start-up phase and shape the technical and compliance standards that will define its success.
As Principal Instrumentation Engineer, you will act as the subject matter expert for all site instrumentation and calibration activities. You'll ensure equipment performance, compliance with regulatory requirements, and long-term reliability across the facility.
You will:
Own the site calibration program, ensuring readiness for regulatory inspections.
Act as SME during audits and liaise with health and regulatory authorities.
Lead reliability improvements, identifying obsolescence and implementing planned replacements.
Provide technical guidance and training to the maintenance team.
Develop, review, and own SOPs, calibration standards, and measurement of uncertainty programs.
Analyse predictive and condition-based monitoring data to drive continuous improvement.
Support equipment selection for capital and replacement projects.
Degree (Level 8 or equivalent) in Electrical & Instrumentation Engineering.
5+ years' experience in a maintenance or engineering role, ideally within a regulated industry (pharma, biotech, med device, etc.).
Strong understanding of calibration methodologies and instrumentation systems.
Knowledge of EU directives (e.g., ATEX) and international engineering standards (ISA, IEC, ISO).
Proven experience in troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and reliability engineering.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence and lead change.
