Senior Financial Accountant - 12-Month Contract - Non Profit organisation
Location: Blanchardstown
Full time position (1 day a week in office/ 4 days working from home)
An innovative non profit organisation is seeking a Qualified Experienced Accountant to join the Finance team on a 12-month contract, supporting a critical period of audits and financial reporting.
The purpose of this role is to ensure that statutory, regulatory, and internal deadlines are met to the highest standard while providing support to the Finance Manager and the wider finance team.
Reporting to the Finance Director, you will play a key role in the audit process, strengthening financial controls and compliance and the delivery and identification of gaps and training needs.
Responsibilities include:
Audit & Compliance
- Lead the preparation for interim, statutory, and internal audits, ensuring deliverables are accurate, complete, and submitted on time.
- Review audit files, reconciliations, and schedules prepared by the Finance team.
- Support the preparation of annual financial statements in line with Charities SORP.
- Monitor and report on the implementation of audit recommendations and action plans.
Support & Assurance
- Support the delivery of tasks by the Finance team against annual plan and agreed deadlines.
- Support the team in reviewing the accuracy and quality of outputs, including supplier onboarding, purchase ledger control, journal postings, income management, month-end process, reconciliations, payroll postings, management accounts, and cash flow reports, and oversee agreed process efficiencies
- Review processes for compliance and accuracy, and report findings with recommended actions.
Financial Management & Reporting Support
- Oversee month-end and year-end close processes to ensure accuracy and timelines.
- Help with strengthening practices relating to financial controls, procedures, and compliance.
Training & Development
- Support the provision of mentoring, coaching, and technical support to the finance team
- Recommend and support the delivery of identified training interventions to build team capability
- Embed knowledge transfer and sustainable improvements in financial processes.
Advisory & Collaboration
- Act as a key advisor to the Finance Director on financial processes and risk management.
- Liaise with external and internal auditors
- Work collaboratively with the Project Funds & Systems Accountant to help ensure completeness and accuracy of data
Essential requirements:
- Fully qualified accountant (ACCA, ACA, CIMA, CPA) with a minimum of 7-10 years post-qualification experience.
- Strong technical accounting background including statutory reporting and audit liaison.
- Expert level proficiency in Excel, data analytics and financial systems.
Preferred
- Experience in the not-for-profit or charity sector.
- Knowledge of SunSystems and Q&A reporting tools.
- Familiarity with Charity SORP accounting and public procurement requirements.
- Previous experience in interim or turnaround assignments.
