An expanding construction business is seeking an experienced procurement professional to take a senior role within its commercial operations team.
This position is suited to a confident, decisive Buyer who can operate with autonomy and take responsibility for procurement performance across multiple live sites. The successful candidate will play a key role in strengthening purchasing discipline, improving supplier performance, and protecting project margins during a period of sustained growth.
This appointment represents an important step in the company's continued development. The Senior Buyer will have genuine influence over procurement standards and supplier performance as the business scales.
The organisation requires a capable and experienced individual who can bring structure, commercial rigour, and leadership presence to a growing purchasing function.
- Lead purchasing activities across several concurrent construction projects
- Develop sourcing strategies aligned to programme requirements
- Review technical submissions and commercial comparisons before commitment
- Negotiate pricing, availability, and terms within agreed authority levels
- Secure materials, plant, and specialist packages in line with project schedules
- Proactively manage long lead and high risk supply items
- Work closely with project delivery teams to anticipate site requirements
- Act as the central procurement contact for operational queries
- Troubleshoot supply chain issues and implement corrective actions quickly
- Coordinate staged deliveries to align with construction sequencing
- Assess and propose suitable alternatives where necessary
- Collaborate with commercial teams to maintain cost certainty
- Ensure procurement decisions reflect approved budgets and tender allowances
- Identify and communicate financial exposure related to supply chain changes
- Maintain structured records to support cost reporting and audit compliance
Candidate Profile
- 5+ years' experience in construction procurement
- Demonstrated ability to manage procurement across active, time sensitive projects
- Strong understanding of construction materials and supply networks
- Comfortable engaging directly with site management teams
- Commercially astute with strong cost awareness
- Quantity Surveying knowledge or background advantageous
