About the Role:
A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an experienced Food Product Technologist to join a dynamic team within a leading food organisation. This role supports the development and delivery of a broad portfolio of Own Brand products-spanning both food and non-food categories-through collaboration with product developers, commercial teams, and supply partners.
You will be responsible for ensuring that all products meet the required technical, legal, and quality standards, while adhering to internal policies and procedures. This role is ideal for someone with a strong food science background and the ability to apply their knowledge in a commercial environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with suppliers to ensure all Own Brand products meet agreed specifications and quality standards, including product and packaging.
- Ensure full compliance with food legislation, technical standards, and internal development processes.
- Manage and maintain product specifications using an online system, ensuring all information is up-to-date and approved prior to launch.
- Follow structured product development processes (stage gate approach) from concept through to market.
- Conduct market benchmarking and identify opportunities for product innovation, cost optimisation, or quality improvement.
- Support the delivery of sustainable packaging solutions aligned with internal environmental targets.
- Communicate effectively with quality teams regarding supplier audit statuses and proactively manage any technical issues.
- Build strong working relationships with suppliers and internal stakeholders across multiple departments.
- Contribute to cost modelling and provide technical support in supplier and product selection.
- Play an active role in supporting the delivery of business priorities, including value optimisation.
Requirements:
- A third-level qualification in Food Science, Food Technology, or a related discipline.
- A minimum of 5 years' experience in the food manufacturing or FMCG sector in a relevant function such as Quality, Technical, or Product Development-ideally with experience in fresh categories.
- Strong knowledge of food labelling regulations and experience approving legal product labels.
- Hands-on experience using online specification systems.
- Sound knowledge of food safety systems (e.g., HACCP, BRC) and allergen control.
- Strong communication, stakeholder engagement, and project management skills.
- High attention to detail and a strong commitment to delivering high standards.
- A passion for food and awareness of market trends.
