We are currently recruiting for an experienced Medical Secretary to join a busy and professional medical practice on a 9 month contract to provide cover. This is an excellent opportunity for a highly organised, professional and approachable individual with strong attention to detail and excellent communication skills.
You will provide comprehensive secretarial and administrative support to the medical team, helping to ensure the smooth and efficient running of the practice. The role will involve managing patient correspondence, scheduling appointments, maintaining medical records, liaising with patients and healthcare professionals, and providing day-to-day administrative support to the team.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive secretarial and administrative support to the medical team
- Manage patient enquiries by telephone, email and correspondence in a professional and sensitive manner
- Coordinate patient appointments, clinics, diaries and schedules
- Prepare, format and maintain medical correspondence, reports and documentation
- Maintain accurate and confidential patient records and databases
- Process referrals, medical reports and other clinical correspondence as required
- Liaise with patients, consultants, GPs, hospitals, healthcare professionals and other external contacts
- Manage incoming and outgoing correspondence, ensuring information is dealt with promptly and appropriately
- Assist with billing, invoices and other administrative tasks where required
- Maintain efficient filing and record-keeping systems
- Handle sensitive and confidential medical information with the highest level of discretion
- Support the smooth day-to-day running of the practice
- Assist with ad hoc administrative and secretarial tasks as required
About You

You will ideally have:
- Previous experience working as a Medical Secretary, Medical Administrator or in a similar healthcare administration role
- Excellent organisational and time-management skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
- Good IT skills and confidence using Microsoft Office and medical administration systems
- The ability to manage confidential and sensitive information appropriately
- The ability to prioritise a busy workload and work independently
- A reliable, flexible and professional approach
- The ability to work effectively as part of a busy medical team
Qualifications & Experience
- Previous medical secretarial or healthcare administration experience is essential
- Experience within a medical practice, hospital, clinic or healthcare environment is advantageous
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office
- Familiarity with medical terminology and patient administration systems is desirable
- Relevant medical secretarial or healthcare administration qualification is advantageous but not essential
