Financial Controller - Multi-Site Retail Group

Our client is a long-established, community-focused retail group that operates a growing network of modern retail stores across Munster. The business continues to make significant investments in its people, infrastructure, and facilities to enhance customer experience and deliver state-of-the-art retail environments. To support their continued growth, they are seeking an experienced Financial Controller to oversee the day-to-day financial operations of the group.
Based on-site in Cork, the Financial Controller will take full responsibility for managing the financial health of the business. You will oversee daily financial operations, produce accurate management accounts, and deliver insightful commercial analysis across multiple store locations. Reporting to senior leadership, you will play a key role in monitoring performance, driving cost controls, mentoring the finance team, and contributing to strategic business initiatives.
Financial Management & Reporting: Oversee day-to-day financial operations, including the preparation and review of multi-unit financial statements, management accounts, and rolling cash flow forecasts.
Store Performance Analysis: Monitor store-level KPIs, review performance metrics, and analyze financial trends to provide actionable commercial insights to senior management.
Budgeting & Cost Control: Direct annual budgeting processes, execute quarterly revisions, perform variance analysis, and implement robust cost-control frameworks across all business units.
Governance & Compliance: Maintain accurate accounting records, enforce internal controls, oversee audit processes, and ensure full compliance with relevant statutory and accounting standards.
Strategic Partnership: Collaborate closely with store managers and operational leadership to support data-driven decision-making, strategic planning, and continuous business improvement initiatives.
Team Leadership: Lead, mentor, and develop members of the finance team, fostering a high-performance, continuous-improvement culture.
Professional Qualification: A recognized accounting qualification (e.g., ACA, ACCA, CIMA) or equivalent senior-level experience is highly desirable.
Sector Experience: Prior experience as a Financial Controller or senior finance leader within retail, FMCG, or a multi-site business environment is strongly beneficial.
Multi-Unit Financial Reporting: Proven capability in preparing, analyzing, and interpreting financial statements and performance metrics across multiple entities/business units.
Technical & Analytical Proficiency: Advanced analytical skills with expert knowledge of Excel and proficiency in modern accounting software/ERP systems for budgeting and forecasting.
Leadership & Stakeholder Management: Excellent communication skills with a track record of leading teams and building effective partnerships with operational site managers and executive leadership.
Integrity & Standards: Exceptional attention to detail, strong commercial acumen, high integrity, and a commitment to best practices in financial governance.
