    Health and Safety Specialist

    Carlow Permanent Competitive

    Health and Safety Specialist

    About the job

    Specialist, Safety & Environment

We are seeking an experienced Specialist, Safety & Environment to join the site Global Safety & Environment (GSE) team for a 14-month contract.

You will join a dedicated team and play an integral role in developing, maintaining, and continually improving the Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) systems at a leading, highly regulated manufacturing facility in Carlow, Ireland.

You will provide technical guidance to the organisation to ensure compliance with applicable legal requirements relating to EHS, as well as corporate standards, policies, procedures, guidelines, and industry best practices.

Working closely with the wider EHS team, you will help ensure that all health, safety, and environmental regulatory requirements on site are upheld to the highest standard.

Experience in biologics, pharmaceuticals, or another highly regulated manufacturing environment is desirable. However, candidates with relevant experience from other highly regulated industries will also be considered. The key requirement is a demonstrable record of success within the environmental, health and safety sector.

    Why consider this opportunity?

    • Excellent opportunity to play a key role in the ongoing development and maintenance of EHS functions at a major manufacturing facility.
    • Opportunity to join an established GSE team and become part of a broader EHS community, with potential exposure to a wider network of sites and opportunities to develop and expand your career.
    • Competitive rewards and benefits package designed to support employees across a wide range of personal and professional needs.
    • Opportunity to work within a high-performing, safety-focused and highly regulated environment.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Develop, implement, and maintain EHS programmes to ensure compliance with local legislation, company standards, and industry best practices.
    • Ensure site environmental compliance with all applicable regulatory, EPA permitting, and legal requirements.
    • Evaluate EHS systems, programmes, and procedures for compliance and continuous improvement through reviews, audits, and inspections.
    • Manage day-to-day EHS queries and provide technical support on machine, plant, process, and equipment safety matters.
    • Support operational departments in achieving and maintaining EHS compliance.
    • Promote a strong safety culture and demonstrate a clear commitment to protecting employees, the local community, and the environment.
    • Prepare relevant EHS reports for site, divisional, corporate management, and regulatory authorities as required.
    • Maintain a high standard of documentation relating to EHS activities.
    • Evaluate applicable EHS requirements for new projects, processes, equipment, and installations, as well as changes to existing processes, working with relevant site departments as required.
    • Carry out other EHS-related duties as assigned.

    Your Profile

    • 5+ years of EHS experience within a manufacturing environment, ideally pharmaceutical, biologics, or another highly regulated industry.
    • Proven track record of success within the EHS sector.
    • Experience supporting multiple activities, projects, and operational priorities.
    • Experience managing and implementing organisational or operational change.
    • Strong ability to influence and collaborate with colleagues across departments and at all levels of an organisation.
    • Strong technical knowledge across a broad range of EHS topics.
    • Innovative and compliance-minded, with the initiative to identify and obtain the information required to resolve EHS challenges.
    • A strong Safety First mindset and genuine commitment to protecting employees and the environment.
