On behalf of our client we have a requirement for a Senior Process Chemist to join a well-established pharmaceutical company in Cork.

About the role

  • Be the Chemistry technical expert for the technology transfers of products to the site to ensure that the processes are run right first time and that they are tailored to maximise the benefit of the plant.

  • As a chemistry technical expert within the product team for any given process, manage that process so that it operates to the required business, safety and quality standards.

  • Constantly challenge processes for improvements in yield, quality, throughput and cost that will give an advantage to the business. Complete proof of concept studies for process improvements and support through to plant introduction.

  • Collaborate with Corporate Technical Services and / or R&D in the development and optimisation of safe, robust and profitable chemical processes taking into account the site specific equipment and experience

  • Keep up to date with the latest developments in Chemical Processing, Process Optimisation and API manufacturing.

  • Maintain an awareness of the happenings within the Pharmaceutical Industry within Ireland

Main Responsibilities

  • Work as site chemist in support of technology transfers and support of existing manufacturing processes

  • Study and optimise existing chemical processes

  • Participate in technical meetings both internally and with clients

  • Analyse results of process optimisation work and production campaigns

  • Report the results of process optimisation at required frequencies and prepare formal process optimisation reports

  • Participate in HAZOP, PHA studies and other required HSE activities

  • Prepare and/or review and/or approve processing documentation as required

  • Participate in and complete assessments for Change Controls to ensure that the impact of proposed changes is technically viable and has no potential impact on product quality.

  • Participate in team investigations on deviations and propose corrective and preventative actions for deviations and where required implement the assigned actions

  • On campaign completion, participate in the preparation of the campaign report including recommendations on process improvements for future campaigns.

  • Assess and recommend the required cleaning to be completed during processes and for Change of Line. Participate in overall preparation and execution of cleaning, as required, in conjunction with the Product / Project team.

  • Keep up to date with the latest developments in chemical processes and API manufacturing.

  • Give training to team members on new processes, process changes and other chemistry related topics that may arise.

  • Assure and promote compliance on Health, Safety and Environment in the areas and activities participated in. Actively participate in all site safety initiatives.

  • Assure and promote compliance on Quality in the areas and activities participated in.

  • Implement and use tools to aid and improve the efficiency of process optimisation work.

  • Housekeeping of Technical Services laboratory to maintain a safe working environment.

Background:

  • PhD or equivalent experience in Chemistry preferably in the area of synthetic organic chemistry.

  • Knowledge of Organic Chemistry, Process Development, Process Optimization and GMPs.

  • Ideally have worked for not less than 2 years in support of chemical processes in the area of API / Intermediate production and have experience in technology transfer and scale-up of chemical processes.
