Morgan McKinley was selected as an NHS Trust’s partner for its international nurse recruitment. The requirement was to source and manage the relocation for 200 CBT passed nurses across multiple specialties in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The client

This particular NHS Trust is responsible for the care of 530,000 local people.

The challenge

To successfully deliver on the recruitment of 200 fully compliant and qualified nurses into a range of specialties.

The solution

Working closely with the Trust, we got agreement on our proposal and their sign off to proceed. Using our local sourcing teams in India and the Philippines, we presented qualified nurses within just one week of the project kicking off.

  • Nurses on our sourcing teams screened candidates according to the Trust’s specific requirements
  • All interviews were face-to-face online, helping to assess English language competency
  • Our compliance experts ensured all necessary documentation was in place

Given the challenging environment of the global COVID-19 pandemic, the Trust requested that we video the interviews using specific specialty related questions. The videos were then uploaded to a secure platform from which the Trust reviewed and indicated pass or fail - our success rate at interview was 98%. This pre-recorded interview process remains in place today.

A master project report was updated weekly in advance of regular conference calls with key stakeholders. Candidates were tracked ‘live’ through every stage of the process including preferences for ward allocation, ensuring full visibility for the Trust. Flights, visas, and mandatory quarantine were all booked and included in this report.

Intensive pastoral care was provided through quarantine and onboarding as the nurses settled into accommodation. Introductions to the specialist OSCE training partner were facilitated where required.

The benefits

International recruitment continues to be an important part of the way in which the NHS is increasing its numbers of nurses and midwives in the healthcare workforce. We work in partnership with the NHS to achieve this.

Working with this particular NHS Trust, we were able to deliver:

  • Clear visibility over candidates throughout the recruitment process
  • Updated interview process to be more streamlined and successful
  • 200 CBT passed nurses arrived fit for practice and delivered within the requested timeline
  • 98% of nurses retained after their first year with the Trust thanks to our dedicated team delivering pastoral care
