An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced VAT professional to join a highly respected national practice as a VAT Director. Based in either Bristol or Southampton, this role offers the chance to lead complex advisory engagements, shape client relationships at the highest level, and contribute to the strategic growth of a leading Indirect Tax team.
You will play a key leadership role, taking full ownership of client assignments, guiding teams, and helping drive business development initiatives.
What you'll be doing:
- Lead delivery of VAT advisory projects across a varied portfolio, ensuring assignments are completed on time, within scope, and to exceptional technical standards.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with senior-level clients, spotting opportunities to add value and grow accounts.
- Review work prepared by junior team members, providing feedback, coaching, and technical guidance.
- Liaise with HMRC on complex matters and support clients in managing their VAT risks and opportunities.
- Manage budgets and project plans, keeping clients and Partners informed of progress, challenges, and changes in scope.
- Collaborate with Partners to support group management, including staff development, recruitment, and team leadership.
- Identify business development opportunities and contribute to proposals, pitches, and strategic planning.
- Provide thoughtful insight on risk, strategic tax planning, and technical matters, exercising sound judgement at all times.
What you'll bring:
- CTA and/or ACA qualification, or equivalent, with extensive post-qualified VAT experience at senior level.
- Proven track record of leading complex tax advisory engagements, including structuring, planning, international VAT, and due diligence work.
- Strong commercial awareness, capable of delivering technically excellent and commercially focused advice.
- Experience managing teams, mentoring talent, and leading large-scale or complex projects.
- Ability to develop business opportunities, prepare proposals, and contribute to wider strategic goals.
- Confident communicator with outstanding stakeholder management and relationship-building skills.
