Join a leading professional services firm in Tokyo as a Valuation & Financial Modelling Consultant, supporting M&A transactions and critical business and investment decisions through valuation, financial modelling, and quantitative analysis.
This position provides broad exposure to business and enterprise valuation, intangible asset valuation, financial instruments, tangible assets, financial modelling, and valuation advisory. You will work on projects supporting domestic and international M&A transactions as well as other important strategic and financial decisions.
Beyond traditional valuation work, there are also opportunities to apply economics, econometrics, statistics, social science, and quantitative analysis to complex business and societal challenges. This may include analysing the economic and social impact of climate change and ESG-related initiatives to provide insights for business planning and investment decisions.
The position is well suited to professionals from financial institutions, corporate finance and planning teams, audit firms, consulting firms, or analytical backgrounds who want to develop specialist expertise in M&A valuation, financial modelling, and transaction advisory.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform enterprise and business valuations to support M&A transactions, strategic decisions, and other corporate requirements.
- Conduct valuations of intangible assets, financial instruments, receivables, tangible assets, and other asset classes.
- Build and review sophisticated Excel financial models supporting M&A transactions and important business decisions.
- Analyse valuation methodologies, theories, assumptions, and outputs and provide clear advice regarding their application and implications.
- Support clients with valuation-related considerations during M&A and other transaction processes.
- Apply economics, social sciences, statistics, and quantitative analysis methodologies to complex business and societal challenges.
- Develop analytical solutions and recommendations based on economic and quantitative research.
- Analyse the social impact and economic effects of climate change and ESG-related issues.
- Provide quantitative insights and information that support business planning and investment decision-making.
- Communicate analytical findings, valuation conclusions, and recommendations clearly to clients and relevant stakeholders.
- Collaborate with professionals across M&A, transaction advisory, valuation, financial analysis, and related specialist areas.
Required Skills and Qualifications
Experience:
- Candidates may come from a range of relevant professional backgrounds, including one or more of the following:
- a) Experience within a financial institution covering corporate or industry analysis, investment, lending, or investment and loan portfolio management.
- b) Experience within a corporate organisation in accounting and finance, corporate planning, M&A, investment, financing, or subsidiary management.
- c) Japanese CPA, overseas CPA, or other relevant professional accounting qualification, or professional audit experience.
- d) Experience in strategy consulting, industry analysis, IT, or ERP development, combined with a strong interest in developing a career within M&A.
- e) Specialist knowledge of economics, econometrics, statistics, social research, or quantitative analysis, with relevant analytical experience or a strong motivation to build a career in this field.
- Bachelor's degree in economics (or a related field).
Soft Skills:
- Ability to develop hypotheses based on numerical and qualitative information and evaluate them through quantitative analysis.
- Ability to understand client challenges and translate analytical findings into practical insights.
- Clear communication skills with the ability to explain complex valuation, financial, and analytical concepts in an understandable way.
- Ability to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary professional teams.
Language Requirements:
- Japanese: Native level
- English: Intermediate / Business level
Preferred Skills & Qualifications
- Securities Analyst, CFA, or other relevant finance or investment qualification.
- Practical experience in statistics, econometrics, or quantitative analysis.
- Knowledge of IFRS or US GAAP.
- Practical experience or specialist knowledge in M&A, corporate valuation, or business valuation.
- Previous exposure to financial modelling or transaction-related analysis.
