A new global mobility venture is seeking a Legal Counsel to support governance, compliance, and cross-border operations as the company launches cutting-edge EV and mobility solutions. This role will focus on contract negotiation, regulatory advisory, and dispute management, ensuring compliance with global data protection standards while building governance frameworks to support rapid growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct legal research and draft/review contracts in Japanese and English.
- Advise on governance and compliance initiatives across Japan and North America.
- Support global operations with a focus on data protection regulations (GDPR, CCPA).
- Manage disputes and litigation, including product liability matters.
- Contribute to board operations and governance framework development.
- Develop internal legal training and guidelines for business teams.
Required Skills and Qualifications
Experience:
- 5+ years in a company, law firm, or non-profit organization.
- Strong background in data privacy and compliance, particularly GDPR.
- Broad exposure to commercial, corporate, and regulatory law.
- Strong communication skills with ability to operate in fast-paced, cross-border settings.
Language Requirements
- Japanese: Native-level proficiency.
- English: Business-level proficiency.
Preferred Skills & Qualifications
- Knowledge of CCPA and other overseas data privacy frameworks.
- Law qualification in Japan, U.S., or EU.
- Experience building or enhancing governance frameworks in multinational organizations.
