Haken Senior SRE - GCP & Data Platform Tokyo

Join a global technology leader in Tokyo as a Senior Site Reliability Engineer (SRE), taking end-to-end ownership of reliability across a large-scale, real-time analytics and data platform supporting hundreds of global services.

This role goes beyond traditional infrastructure operations. You will work across the full data lifecycle-from frontend tracking SDKs and web collectors to distributed data pipelines, GCP infrastructure, and analytics dashboards-to improve reliability, scalability, performance, and developer productivity.

You will also help shape a modern Platform Engineering environment by building Internal Developer Portals (IDPs), self-service infrastructure, SLI/SLO frameworks, CI/CD automation, and AI-assisted engineering workflows. This is an excellent opportunity for an SRE or DevOps Engineer with strong software development skills who wants to work at the intersection of GCP, data engineering, platform engineering, and AI automation.

Key Responsibilities

• Take end-to-end ownership of full-stack reliability across frontend tracking SDKs, web collectors, backend services, data pipelines, and analytics dashboards.
• Define, monitor, and continuously improve SLIs, SLOs, and error budgets, balancing platform reliability with business and product priorities.
• Build and integrate Internal Developer Portals (IDPs) using platforms such as Backstage or Port to enable self-service infrastructure and streamline developer workflows.
• Design and maintain modular Infrastructure as Code using Terraform or Ansible across complex cloud environments.
• Leverage AI-assisted engineering tools such as GitHub Copilot and Cursor to accelerate development, automate repetitive work, and improve incident root-cause analysis.
• Conduct performance analysis and bottleneck optimisation across network, web application, cloud, and distributed data pipeline layers.
• Design automated CI/CD pipelines that embed reliability earlier in the software development lifecycle through automated testing and deployment controls.
• Work hands-on with GCP technologies including GKE, BigQuery, Dataflow, and Cloud Functions to support scalable production environments.
• Collaborate across frontend, backend, data, and cloud engineering teams to resolve complex reliability and performance challenges.
• Reduce developer cognitive load by creating reusable tooling, automation, and self-service capabilities for engineering teams.

Required Skills and Qualifications

Experience:

• 3+ years of professional experience in Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), Backend Engineering, DevOps, or Platform Engineering, with strong software development capabilities.
• Advanced hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform or Ansible, including modular infrastructure design and management.
• Strong programming skills in at least one backend language such as Python, Java, Go, or Scala.
• Production experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP), particularly GKE, BigQuery, Dataflow, or Cloud Functions.
• Practical experience implementing or operating Internal Developer Portals such as Backstage or Port.
• Hands-on experience defining and managing SLIs, SLOs, and error budgets within production environments.
• Experience designing automated CI/CD workflows and integrating reliability practices into software delivery.
• Practical experience using AI-native coding, automation, or troubleshooting tools to improve engineering workflows.
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent qualification.

• Japanese: Basic-level proficiency. Additional Japanese communication ability is advantageous for collaboration with local stakeholders.
• English: Intermediate to business-level proficiency required for technical communication and collaboration within an international engineering environment.

Preferred Skills & Qualifications

• Frontend development or debugging experience with JavaScript or TypeScript, particularly for tracking SDKs, web collectors, or analytics dashboards.
• Advanced observability experience using Prometheus, Grafana, Google Cloud Monitoring, or similar platforms.
• Hands-on experience with large-scale data processing technologies such as Apache Spark.
• Experience with modern CI/CD platforms such as GitHub Actions or Google Cloud Build.
• Experience designing or operating multi-tenant cloud environments and cloud-native data platforms.
• Knowledge of developer experience (DevEx), self-service infrastructure, golden paths, and modern Platform Engineering practices.
• Experience supporting real-time analytics, high-volume data pipelines, or distributed data platforms.
• Broader software engineering experience across frontend and backend systems.
