Haken Frontend Engineering Lead - Tokyo

Join a leading global internet and technology company in Tokyo as a Frontend Engineering Lead, driving end-to-end frontend development for a large-scale global affiliate platform used in a high-traffic digital environment.

You will take ownership of the complete frontend development lifecycle, from collaborating on UI/UX design through implementation, testing, deployment, and operational maintenance. Working closely with product managers, UX/UI designers, backend engineers, and international technology teams, you will build responsive, scalable, and high-performance web applications using modern JavaScript and TypeScript technologies.

This contract opportunity is open to candidates currently residing in Japan and offers the chance to deepen your frontend engineering expertise within a multinational technology environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Drive the complete frontend development lifecycle, from UI/UX collaboration and implementation through testing, deployment, and operational maintenance.
• Collaborate with product managers, UX/UI designers, and backend engineers to translate business and technical requirements into responsive frontend solutions.
• Develop complex web interactions using JavaScript, TypeScript, React, Vue.js, Next.js, and other modern frontend technologies.
• Ensure strong application performance, scalability, accessibility, and cross-browser compatibility.
• Conduct root cause analysis of frontend issues, implement effective fixes, and continuously optimize platform performance.
• Evaluate emerging frontend frameworks, development tools, and engineering methodologies to identify opportunities for improvement.
• Participate in code reviews and contribute to frontend architecture and engineering quality.
• Support scalable development practices for a large-scale global affiliate and ad-technology platform.

Required Skills and Qualifications

Experience:

• 5+ years of professional web application development experience, with a primary focus on frontend engineering and architecture.
• Strong expertise in modern JavaScript and TypeScript.
• Extensive production experience with React, Vue.js, or Next.js.
• Solid understanding of frontend design patterns and scalable UI architecture.
• Knowledge of web accessibility standards and cross-browser development.
• Experience integrating and working with Open Source Software (OSS).
• Candidates must currently reside in Japan.

Soft Skills:

• Strong cross-functional collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively with product managers, designers, backend engineers, and other technology stakeholders.
• Proactive problem-solving mindset with the ability to identify technical issues, conduct root cause analysis, and implement effective solutions.
• Ability to contribute effectively within international and multicultural engineering teams.
• Strong ownership and commitment to frontend quality, performance, and continuous improvement.

Language Requirements:

• Japanese: Basic
• English: Intermediate/Business

Preferred Skills & Qualifications

• Familiarity with Figma and UI/UX prototyping workflows.
• Experience using Docker or other containerization technologies.
• Foundational knowledge of backend development using Java or Python.
• Experience contributing to requirements definition and technical planning.
• Previous experience leading, supporting, or mentoring junior frontend engineers.
• Experience working on high-traffic digital platforms, affiliate systems, or ad-tech products.
