ECA & Structured Finance Senior Lead Tokyo

Join a top-tier global bank in Tokyo and take a senior role leading and developing its Export Credit Agency (ECA) and Structured Finance business in Japan.

This position will lead ECA Finance activities across origination, structuring, and execution, developing cross-border financing opportunities with Japanese exporters, trading houses, sponsors, and corporate clients. You will manage medium- and long-term export finance transactions from initial assessment through documentation and closing.

Working closely with Japanese and international export credit agencies, public financial institutions, corporate coverage teams, and regional and global product specialists, you will play a key role in expanding the bank's ECA and Structured Finance franchise in Japan.

This is an opportunity for an experienced ECA Finance, Export Finance, Project Finance, or Structured Finance professional to leverage established industry relationships and transaction expertise within a global banking platform.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the ECA Finance business in Japan across transaction origination, structuring, and execution.
• Develop ECA-backed financing opportunities with Japanese exporters, trading houses, sponsors, and corporate clients.
• Structure medium- and long-term export finance transactions from initial assessment through documentation and closing.
• Build and maintain senior relationships with Japanese and international export credit agencies and public financial institutions.
• Partner with corporate coverage, Structured Finance, Trade Finance, and regional product teams to identify and develop new business opportunities.
• Coordinate credit, legal, risk, compliance, operations, and portfolio management teams throughout the transaction lifecycle.
• Manage the ECA Finance business pipeline while maintaining strong credit discipline, KYC standards, regulatory compliance, and execution quality.
• Coordinate complex cross-border transactions across regional and global product teams.

Required Skills and Qualifications

Experience:

• Approximately 8-15 years of relevant experience in ECA Finance, Export Finance, Project Finance, or Structured Finance.
• Proven experience originating, structuring, and executing ECA-backed cross-border financing transactions.
• Strong knowledge of medium- and long-term export finance products and transaction structures.
• Experience working with Japanese and international export credit agencies and public financial institutions.
• Established relationships with Japanese exporters, trading houses, sponsors, and corporate clients.
• Strong understanding of credit analysis, transaction documentation, risk allocation, KYC, and regulatory requirements.
• Proven ability to coordinate complex transactions across regional and global product teams.
• Experience in ECA or Structured Finance within a megabank or global bank.
• Bachelor's degree.

Soft Skills:

• Strong commercial acumen with the ability to identify and develop new financing opportunities.
• Excellent relationship-management skills for working with senior corporate clients, ECAs, public financial institutions, and internal stakeholders.
• Strong coordination and execution capabilities across complex, multidisciplinary, and cross-border transactions.
• Ability to balance commercial objectives with credit discipline, risk management, regulatory requirements, and execution quality.

Language Requirements:

• Japanese: Native level.
• English: Fluent, with the ability to work effectively across regional and global banking teams.

Preferred Skills & Qualifications

• Existing relationships with Japanese exporters, trading houses, ECAs, and government-related financial institutions.
• Transaction experience across energy, infrastructure, transportation, industrials, or natural resources.
• Experience working within a major international or Japanese commercial bank.
• Knowledge of Project Finance, Structured Trade Finance, or Asset Finance.
• Experience coordinating transactions across international offices and regional product teams.
• A relevant professional qualification or postgraduate degree in finance, economics, business, law, or engineering.
