Our client, an established international retail brand with a dynamic sourcing operation, is seeking an experienced, proactive Senior Merchandiser specializing in Accessories (Bags, Wallets, and Small Leather Goods).
This role bridges creative design and technical execution. Acting as the critical link between the overseas HQ Design team, internal sourcing specialists, and manufacturing partners, you will drive product development and R&D from initial design sketch through to pre-production handover.
Product Development & R&D: Drive the end-to-end development cycle for seasonal collections across bags, wallets, and accessories, ensuring target margins, design integrity, and critical delivery paths are met.
HQ Collaboration: Liaise closely with overseas HQ designers to interpret design tech packs, translate aesthetic concepts into production-ready specifications, and offer technical solutions regarding construction and materials.
Material Sourcing & Innovation: Partner with the sourcing team and material mills to identify, evaluate, and commercialize diverse materials, focusing heavily on genuine leather, canvas, and technical synthetics/PVC, as well as specialty hardware.
Sample Management & Fit Review: Oversee prototype creation, sample fitting, workmanship assessment, and counter-sample validation; troubleshoot construction issues directly with vendors.
Costing & Vendor Coordination: Conduct cost breakdown analysis, FOB price negotiations, and factory capacity allocation to meet target commercial margins.
Quality & Compliance: Coordinate with QA/QC teams and testing laboratories to ensure all raw materials and finished goods adhere to international chemical, physical, and retail compliance standards.
Higher Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Fashion/Textile Design, Merchandising, Supply Chain, or a related discipline.
Minimum 5-6 years of merchandising and product development experience, with a dedicated focus on bags, wallets, and fashion accessories.
Strong technical expertise in raw materials, specifically leather (tannery processes, finishing, grading), canvas, coated fabrics, and PVC/PU.
Solid track record working within a multinational retail, buying office, or global trading environment.
Proven experience interfacing directly with international HQ design teams and overseas buying offices.
Strong negotiation, project management, and cross-functional communication skills.
Excellent command of written and spoken English and Mandarin/Cantonese.
Willingness to travel occasionally to manufacturing facilities in the region (Mainland China / Southeast Asia) when required.
