About the role:
A growing local retail company is seeking an experienced Product Design Manager to lead the design and development of our women's handbag collection. In this role, you will be responsible for creating innovative, on-trend women handbag designs that delight customers and drive sales
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop the overall creative vision and seasonal design direction for the women's handbag line
- Manage the end-to-end design process, from concept to production, ensuring designs meet quality, cost, and timeline requirements
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including merchandising, product development, and sourcing, to translate design concepts into commercially viable products
- Identify and research market trends, customer preferences, and competitive offerings to inform the design process
- Oversee the work of in-house designers and external design agencies to ensure designs align with the brand's aesthetic and strategic goals
- Provide design leadership, mentorship, and performance feedback to the design team
- Stay up-to-date with industry trends, materials, and manufacturing techniques to drive design innovation
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Industrial Design, Fashion Design, or a related field
- Minimum 8 years of experience in product design, with a strong portfolio of women's handbag design work
- Proven track record of developing successful, commercially viable product designs
- Excellent understanding of materials, construction techniques, and production processes for handbags
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to balance creativity and commercial viability
- Effective communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work cross-functionally
- Proficiency in design software, such as Adobe Creative Suite and CAD tools
- Knowledge of sustainable design practices and materials is a plus
