The Opportunity
As Engineering Director, you'll provide technical leadership across multiple client engagements, ensuring engineering teams deliver secure, scalable, and resilient solutions. You'll work closely with architects, delivery leaders, and client stakeholders to shape technical strategy while remaining closely connected to modern software engineering practices.
This role is ideal for a hands-on technical leader who enjoys solving complex challenges and helping organisations adopt innovative engineering approaches.
Key Responsibilities
Engineering Leadership
- Lead engineering delivery across multiple teams and programmes.
- Drive quality throughout the software development lifecycle.
- Establish engineering standards for code quality, testing, deployment, and operational readiness.
- Provide technical oversight and guidance to engineering teams.
Technology & Innovation
- Champion modern engineering practices and continuous improvement.
- Drive adoption of AI-assisted engineering, automation, and intelligent development tooling.
- Promote DevSecOps, cloud-native development, and engineering best practice.
- Evaluate emerging technologies and identify opportunities for innovation.
Cloud & Platform Engineering
- Lead delivery of cloud-native and hybrid platform solutions.
- Support engineering across AWS and/or Azure environments.
- Oversee containerised applications, Kubernetes, APIs, and distributed systems.
Team Leadership
- Mentor Engineering Managers, Technical Leads, Architects, and Senior Engineers.
- Build high-performing engineering teams and develop technical capability.
- Support recruitment and contribute to growing the engineering practice.
Client Engagement
- Act as a trusted technical advisor to senior client stakeholders.
- Translate complex technical concepts into clear business outcomes.
- Support programme governance, risk management, and technical decision-making.
Technical Environment
You'll be working across a modern technology stack including:
- AWS and/or Azure
- Java, Spring Boot, and enterprise backend technologies
- Microservices and distributed architectures
- React and modern frontend frameworks
- Kubernetes and container platforms
- CI/CD pipelines and DevSecOps tooling
- API-first integration and event-driven architectures
- OAuth, SSO, and enterprise security frameworks
- AI-assisted software engineering and automation
About You
You'll bring:
- Extensive experience leading software engineering or platform engineering teams.
- Strong technical depth with the ability to engage in architecture, design, and engineering delivery.
- Experience delivering complex programmes within enterprise or highly regulated environments.
- A passion for engineering excellence and continuous improvement.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
- The ability to inspire, mentor, and develop technical teams.
Experience
- 12+ years in software engineering, platform engineering, or technology delivery.
- 5+ years in a senior engineering leadership role.
- Proven experience with cloud platforms (AWS and/or Azure).
- Strong background in modern application development, DevSecOps, and enterprise engineering.
