A Canadian investment bank and financial services provider is looking for a VP-level ISDA negotiator to join the London-based team working with the New York and Toronto offices

About the business

The Global Markets Documentation Team in Global Counterparty Credit is an integral part of the Bank. The group provides best-of-class service to business partners in the Bank through negotiation and execution of agreements that govern capital markets trading products. The team is committed to providing a seamless client experience while managing the Bank's risk.

About the role

The position will be responsible for providing best-of-class service to clients of the Bank and internal business partners by preparing and negotiating legal documentation with global counterparties for trading products such as derivatives, foreign exchange, fixed income products, repo, and precious metals products i.e. ISDA Master Agreements, GMRA' and Lease Agreements. The position must ensure that the Bank is sufficiently protected from legal, risk, and operational perspectives in all such trading documents and other legal documentation between the Bank and its counterparties. The position will be required to build and maintain strong relationships with all stakeholders across the Bank and be available to service the deal flow with tight deadlines from global desks in London, North America and Singapore.

Principal Responsibilities

  • Ensure that the Bank is adequately protected in all of its dealings by preparing and negotiating trading documents, including ISDA Master Agreements & CSAs, GMRA's, related credit support documentation and other legal documentation (including precious metals agreements) between the Bank and its counterparties.
  • Lead or participate in internal calls with stakeholders, as well as calls with clients and internal/external legal counsel, to discuss issues that arise during negotiations of trading agreements.
  • Liaise and coordinate with internal stakeholders, such as Credit, Business, Tax, Legal, Operations, Portfolio Valuation Group and Collateral Management, during the documentation negotiation process.
  • Provide timely updates to the Business on the status of negotiations, whether via weekly calls or through the team's internal document tracking system.
  • Support stakeholders in their activities in relation to capital markets legal agreements, collateral and risk.
  • Candidates will be called upon to lead or participate in a range of projects relating to the legal and regulatory aspects of derivatives products.

Job Requirements

  • Law degree and Bar Admission preferred.
  • Experience of trading documentation or capital markets experience.
  • The candidate for this position will enjoy working on documentation, be able to effectively apply legal and sound risk management principles.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently while understanding when to involve other team members as needed and to work effectively in a team environment.
  • High degree of integrity and strong work ethic.
  • The candidate has the ability to work under tight deadlines and has the flexibility to support global time zones as required.
