Part-Time Bookkeeper / Part-Time Legal Secretary

Morgan McKinley is partnering with a highly respected, well-established law firm in Waterford. They are now seeking an experienced and meticulous professional to join their practice in a dual-capacity role as a Part-Time Bookkeeper / Part-Time Legal Secretary.
This position is designed as a Full-Time role (40 hours per week) evenly divided into two core functions:
- Bookkeeping: 20 hours per week.
- Legal Secretary / Administration: 20 hours per week.
Note: For the right candidate, our client is also highly open to hiring on a purely Part-Time basis covering just the 20 hours of bookkeeping duties.
Roles and Responsibilities
Financial & Bookkeeping (20 Hours/Week)
- Core Financials: Executing bank transfers, reconciling accounts, and serving as the firm's core financial engine.
- Record Keeping: Managing daily hard/soft copy financial records and entering receipts/payments into the database.
- Fund Monitoring: Monitoring bank activity for incoming client/office funds and advising solicitors accordingly.
- Lodgements & Audits: Lodging cheques/cash quickly and reviewing files/accounts presented by the legal team.
- Compliance & Tax: Conducting monthly and yearly bank reconciliations to ensure strict compliance with Law Society Accounts Regulations.
- Returns & Payroll: Preparing and filing bi-monthly VAT and monthly PAYE returns via ROS, alongside processing the firm's internal weekly payroll efficiently.
Legal Secretarial & Administration (20 Hours/Week)
- Secretarial Support: Providing high-quality legal typing, dictation, and documentation support to the solicitors.
- Front-of-House: Handling reception duties, managing incoming calls, and greeting clients.
- Office Administration: Managing digital and paper workflows, filing, and general administrative upkeep to ensure the smooth day-to-day running of the practice.
Job Requirements
- Experience: Strong bookkeeping experience; a legal sector background is highly preferred but not essential.
- Transferable Skills: Candidates from high-compliance fields (e.g., property, auctioneering, accountancy practice) are welcome.
- Technical Skills: Demonstrated experience handling VAT, PAYE returns, weekly payroll, and ROS.
- Software: Familiarity with legal accounts and management software (such as Harvest, Leap, Keyhouse, or Keystone) is a distinct advantage.
- Secretarial Skills: Strong typing speed and administrative capability for the secretarial portion of the role.
- Attributes: Exceptional attention to detail, strong communication skills, and the ability to collaborate seamlessly within a tight-knit, small team environment.
