    About the job

    Technical Development Engineer/Mechanical NPI

    The Role

An established engineering manufacturer within the environmental and wastewater treatment sector is seeking a hands-on Technical Development Engineer to support the design, development, and optimisation of engineered treatment systems.

This role suits a practical, solutions-focused engineer with strong experience in manufacturing, mechanical, automation, fabrication, or structural environments who enjoys solving real-world problems and contributing across the full product lifecycle - from concept through to production and continuous improvement. This is a hands-on technical development role focused on engineered environmental systems and manufacturing-ready product design.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Lead and support the design and development of new and existing wastewater treatment systems.
    • Analyse and resolve technical issues, delivering practical, manufacturable, and cost-effective solutions.
    • Translate concepts into robust, scalable designs suitable for production.
    • Collaborate with R&D, production, quality, and operations teams to ensure successful project delivery.
    • Support New Product Introductions (NPIs), including documentation, validation, and process handover.
    • Drive lean manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives.
    • Incorporate customer, installation, and field feedback into ongoing product and system improvements.
    • Contribute to broader engineering activities in line with business and departmental goals.

    Skills & Experience

    • 5+ years' hands-on technical experience in manufacturing, mechanical, automation, fabrication, structural, or related environments.
    • Formal engineering qualifications are beneficial but not essential.
    • Apprenticeship, trade, technician, or similar practical technical background is an advantage.
    • Strong troubleshooting ability with a natural curiosity for how systems work.
    • Experience supporting product build, testing, commissioning, or development activities.
    • Comfortable working cross-functionally with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
    • Detail-oriented, proactive, and solutions-driven with strong communication skills.
