Morgan McKinley is delighted to be partnering with a fast-growing logistics and transport business as they appoint a Warehouse Operations Manager to support an exciting period of expansion.
Following significant recent growth and further expansion on the horizon, the business is making this strategic hire to strengthen its operational leadership and ensure the warehouse function is fully equipped for its next phase of development.
This is an opportunity for an experienced warehouse leader to take ownership of a large-scale operation, lead a growing team and play a central role in shaping how the business operates as it scales.
The successful candidate will bring strong operational discipline, commercial awareness and a proven ability to lead people through periods of change and growth. You will be responsible for ensuring the warehouse operates safely, efficiently and to the highest customer-service standards, while continuously identifying opportunities to improve productivity, processes and performance.
The Role
Reporting into senior management, the Warehouse Operations Manager will have overall responsibility for the day-to-day performance of the warehouse operation.
You will lead from the front, ensuring the operation is appropriately resourced, well organised and capable of meeting increasing customer demand. With growth comes complexity, and this role will be instrumental in putting the structure, processes and people in place to support sustainable expansion.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Leadership
- Take overall responsibility for the day-to-day warehouse operation, ensuring a safe, efficient and high-performing environment.
- Lead the operation through a significant period of growth and expansion.
- Ensure all inbound, outbound, storage, picking, packing and distribution activities are delivered efficiently and accurately.
- Optimise warehouse capacity, space utilisation, labour deployment and workflow.
- Develop and implement robust processes and operating procedures to support scalability.
- Ensure operational performance consistently meets customer and business requirements.
- Work closely with transport and logistics teams to ensure seamless end-to-end operations.
People Leadership
- Lead, motivate and develop a large warehouse team, creating a culture of accountability, engagement and continuous improvement.
- Build organisational capability in line with future business growth.
- Effectively manage workforce planning, shift structures and resource requirements.
- Coach and develop supervisors and team leaders to strengthen the management structure.
- Set clear expectations around performance, productivity and service levels.
- Support recruitment, onboarding, training and development as the operation grows.
Performance & Continuous Improvement
- Establish and monitor operational KPIs covering productivity, accuracy, service levels, labour efficiency and warehouse performance.
- Analyse operational data to identify trends, bottlenecks and opportunities for improvement.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives across the warehouse.
- Identify opportunities to improve productivity while maintaining high standards of service and quality.
- Introduce greater structure, consistency and accountability across warehouse processes.
- Lead operational projects associated with the company's continued expansion.
Health, Safety & Compliance
- Maintain the highest standards of health, safety and operational compliance.
- Ensure warehouse procedures and practices meet all relevant legislative and company requirements.
- Promote a proactive safety culture throughout the operation.
- Ensure equipment, facilities and working practices are appropriately managed and maintained.
- Investigate incidents and implement preventative measures where required.
Customer & Stakeholder Management
- Develop strong relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.
- Ensure customer requirements are understood and consistently delivered.
- Act as a senior operational point of contact for warehouse-related issues and escalations.
- Work collaboratively with transport, commercial and customer service teams to improve the overall customer experience.
About You
We are looking for an experienced warehouse or logistics professional who is ready to take ownership of a significant operation and make a genuine impact.
You will ideally have:
- Proven experience managing large-scale warehouse or logistics operations.
- Strong people-management and leadership experience, ideally within a fast-paced 3PL, logistics, transport, FMCG or distribution environment.
- A track record of successfully managing teams through periods of growth, change or operational transformation.
- Strong knowledge of warehouse processes, inventory management, fulfilment and distribution.
- Experience managing operational KPIs and using data to drive performance.
- A strong understanding of health, safety and compliance within a warehouse environment.
- Excellent planning, organisational and problem-solving skills.
- Strong commercial awareness and the ability to balance customer expectations with operational efficiency.
- A hands-on, visible leadership style with the ability to engage teams at all levels.
