About the Role
Our client is seeking an experienced Critical Facility Engineer to join its Data Center Facility Operations team.
The Critical Facility Engineer will be responsible for the operation, maintenance and troubleshooting of critical data centre infrastructure, ensuring systems operate safely, efficiently and reliably with minimal disruption to the business.
This is a hands-on engineering position suited to someone with experience across areas such as electrical systems, HVAC, mechanical systems, controls, building management or other critical environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out hands-on operation, maintenance and servicing of critical facility systems in line with site procedures.
- Complete maintenance and operational tasks accurately and on time through the Hexagon Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) system.
- Develop and maintain a strong technical understanding of data centre infrastructure and operations.
- Complete required Personnel Qualification Standards (PQS) training.
- Respond quickly and effectively to facility emergencies, following established and emergency operating procedures.
- Regularly inspect equipment, buildings, safety routes and site grounds to identify faults, abnormal conditions or potential safety issues.
- Troubleshoot technical issues and make recommendations for system upgrades and improvements.
- Order parts and supplies required for maintenance and repairs.
- Work closely with vendors and contractors, ensuring work is completed in accordance with the platform's processes, procedures and standards.
- Escalate facility issues appropriately and in a timely manner.
- Assist with scheduling and supervising vendors and subcontractors during maintenance and servicing activities.
- Recommend ongoing improvements to facility operations and maintenance programmes.
- Operate within a control room environment, using computerized systems to monitor equipment, respond to system alerts, diagnose faults and coordinate resources.
- Support the safe and reliable operation of critical infrastructure across the data centre.
Requirements
Essential Experience
- 5+ years' experience in an electrical, HVAC, mechanical, controls or other technical maintenance environment.
- Strong practical troubleshooting and maintenance experience.
- Ability to work effectively within a 12-hour rotating shift environment, including nights, weekends and holidays.
- Comfortable working in a hands-on technical environment.
- Ability to work across areas requiring walking over flat and uneven terrain, working at varying heights and using ladders.
- Ability to perform physical tasks including reaching, pushing, pulling, stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling.
- Ability to lift and/or move 45 lbs (approximately 20 kg) or more.
- Ability to sit or stand at a workstation for extended periods.
Education
One of the following:
- 5+ years' relevant technical maintenance experience, OR
- Associate's degree in Engineering plus 3+ years' relevant experience, OR
- Bachelor's degree in a related field plus 2+ years' experience in electrical, HVAC, mechanical or controls.
Preferred Experience
Candidates with the following backgrounds would be particularly relevant:
- 3+ years' experience in a data centre or other critical environment, such as:
- Data centres
- Pharmaceutical facilities
- Clean rooms
- Medical environments
- Power generation
- Other highly controlled/critical facilities
- Trade certification or licence in Electrical or Mechanical/HVAC.
- Experience with EAM or CMMS systems.
- Knowledge of critical facilities operations.
- Experience with mechanical, electrical and life-safety monitoring and control systems.
- Experience interpreting blueprints or CAD drawings.
- Membership or involvement with professional facilities organisations such as 7x24 Exchange, IFMA or Data Center Pulse.
- Degree in Engineering
What We're Looking For
The ideal candidate will be a technically strong, hands-on engineer who is comfortable working with critical infrastructure where reliability, safety and uptime are essential.
Experience in a data centre is highly relevant, but candidates from other critical environments such as pharma, clean rooms, hospitals, power generation or industrial facilities may also have transferable experience.
The role operates on a rotating 12-hour shift pattern, rather than a standard Monday-Friday schedule. This includes both day and night shifts, weekends and holidays.

The role follows a repeating four-week rotation with 14 shifts in total:
- Week 1: Four day shifts
- Week 2: Four night shifts
- Week 3: Four day shifts
- Week 4: Three night shifts
