Job Description
We are seeking a highly experienced Network Engineer to join our client's technical team on a 12-month fully onsite contract in Dublin. This role focuses on the design, deployment, and optimisation of global DWDM networks, and will involve working at the forefront of high-scale networking infrastructure.
This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the design and rollout of optical networks while collaborating with global networking teams and driving operational improvements.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and deploy scalable DWDM network solutions to support global demand.
- Define and implement operational processes to support optical network build and maintenance.
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional networking teams to ensure alignment and performance.
- Evaluate new hardware and tools; lead commercial tenders and vendor assessments.
- Ensure all optical infrastructure aligns with defined technical and operational standards.
- Review, validate, and implement changes within optical systems.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance the quality and reliability of the DWDM network.
- Troubleshoot complex technical issues, developing innovative solutions in real-time.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in a technology-related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
- A minimum of 7+ years' industry experience in networking.
- Proven expertise in designing and rolling out large-scale DWDM networks.
- Experience using optical network modelling and planning tools.
- Strong background in IP networking fundamentals and protocols.
- In-depth knowledge of DWDM platforms such as Ciena, Infinera, and Cisco.
- Strong hands-on experience with major router platforms (Cisco, Juniper), including supervisory and line cards.
- Deep understanding of internet routing protocols, especially BGP and OSPF.
- Excellent troubleshooting skills and a solid grasp of network performance analysis.
- Familiarity with a wide range of networking technologies and protocols including:
T1/DS1, DS3, SONET (OC3, OC48), VLANs/STP (802.1d), IPv4/IPv6, TCP, HSRP, GLBP, PIMv2, IGMP, LDP, TACACS, IPSEC, VPNs, NetFlow, DNS, HTTP.
