The Role:
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Mechanical Fitter to join our engineering and maintenance team at a busy food manufacturing facility in Dublin.
The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining, repairing and improving a wide range of production machinery and equipment, ensuring that the plant operates safely, efficiently and with minimal downtime.
This is a days and nights shift role, working as part of a wider engineering and production team in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) on production and site equipment.
- Respond promptly to mechanical breakdowns and faults to minimise production downtime.
- Diagnose mechanical faults and identify the root cause of equipment failures.
- Repair, replace and install mechanical components including bearings, belts, chains, gearboxes, pumps, valves and motors.
- Carry out mechanical adjustments, alignments and equipment set-ups.
- Support equipment changeovers and production line start-ups.
- Assist with the installation and commissioning of new machinery and equipment.
- Complete maintenance work to a high standard while following relevant food manufacturing and hygiene requirements.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records and report faults, repairs and outstanding issues.
- Work closely with electrical and production teams to resolve equipment issues efficiently.
- Identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability, efficiency and safety.
- Ensure all maintenance activities are carried out in accordance with company health & safety procedures.
- Maintain a clean, organised and safe engineering workshop and work environment.
Candidate Requirements
- Recognised mechanical engineering/fitting qualification or equivalent experience.
- Previous experience as a Mechanical Fitter, Maintenance Fitter or Mechanical Maintenance Technician.
- Experience working within a manufacturing, FMCG or food production environment is desirable.
- Strong mechanical fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
- Experience with pumps, gearboxes, conveyors, bearings, chains and other mechanical systems.
- Ability to read and understand mechanical drawings and technical documentation.
- Good understanding of preventative and reactive maintenance.
- Strong awareness of health, safety and hygiene requirements.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Flexible approach to working day and night shifts.
- Good communication and organisational skills.
Desirable Experience
Experience with some of the following would be advantageous:
- Conveyors and automated production lines
- Pneumatic and hydraulic systems
- Food processing or packaging machinery
- Gearboxes and drive systems
- Welding and fabrication
- Preventative maintenance systems/CMMS
- Continuous improvement and reliability programmes
