Maintenance Fitter / Mechanical Maintenance Technician
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will join the Engineering and Maintenance team, with primary responsibility for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of manufacturing plant and machinery. Key responsibilities include:
- Install, maintain, and repair production plant and equipment, including form/fill/seal machines, canning and packaging equipment, associated feed systems, and site utilities such as steam generation and distribution, compressed air systems, and safety systems.
- Diagnose faults and repair malfunctioning equipment using technical manuals, engineering drawings, and standard operating procedures while adhering to safe working practices.
- Maintain equipment to maximise reliability and efficiency by completing both planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance to a high standard.
- Carry out all mechanical maintenance activities in compliance with relevant safety standards and regulations.
- Perform equipment changeovers, lubrication, and routine servicing to support efficient production across different product lines.
- Communicate effectively with colleagues across shifts to ensure a smooth handover of maintenance activities and outstanding work.
- Collaborate with production and engineering teams to address equipment performance, reliability, and efficiency issues.
- Liaise with external suppliers and contractors regarding spare parts, technical support, and specialist maintenance requirements when necessary.
- Follow all site procedures relating to health and safety, hygiene, PPE, and workplace standards.
- Complete all required maintenance documentation, inspection records, quality checks, and safety records accurately and on time.
- Maintain high housekeeping standards and follow a clean-as-you-go approach.
- Provide maintenance support across all manufacturing, packaging, warehouse, utilities, and service areas as required.
Skills and Experience
- Minimum of 2 years' post-qualification experience as a Maintenance Fitter, Mechanical Technician, or Welder/Fabricator within a manufacturing environment.
- Recognised mechanical maintenance qualification (or equivalent Level 6 National Craft qualification or equivalent recognised by the relevant national qualifications authority).
- Experience in preventative and planned maintenance programmes.
- Ability to work independently and use initiative to diagnose and resolve equipment faults.
- Flexibility to work rotating shifts, weekends, and overtime where required.
- Experience within a food manufacturing, FMCG, packaging, or other high-volume production environment would be advantageous.
