Morgan McKinley is delighted to be partnering with a key global logistics player on the appointment of a Land Freight Team Supervisor based in North, Co. Dublin.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced road freight professional to take on a pivotal leadership role within a fast-paced, customer-focused logistics operation. The successful candidate will oversee the day-to-day management of domestic and international road freight activities, while leading and developing a high-performing operational team.
Working across customers, carriers, customs, transport planning and internal stakeholders, you will play a key role in ensuring freight moves efficiently, compliantly and in line with agreed service levels.
The ideal candidate will combine strong operational expertise with proven people-management capabilities and a genuine focus on customer service, continuous improvement and commercial performance.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Leadership
- Oversee the creation, coordination and execution of domestic and international road freight shipments.
- Ensure all shipments are managed in accordance with internal procedures, regulatory requirements and customer SLAs.
- Act as a key escalation point for customer queries, transport delays, service issues and complaints.
- Work closely with the Customs team on import, export and other customs-related matters.
- Develop and optimise Land Freight workflows to ensure the efficient transfer of information across departments.
- Identify opportunities to eliminate duplication, streamline processes and improve operational efficiency.
- Provide hands-on operational support to the team where required.
Customer & Stakeholder Management
- Build and maintain strong, long-term relationships with customers across Ireland and the UK.
- Liaise closely with Transport Planning and carrier partners to ensure customer requirements are delivered efficiently and effectively.
- Act as a key point of contact for queries and operational matters relating to strategic customers.
- Develop strong working relationships across internal departments, depots and external partners.
- Promote effective communication and collaboration between the Land Freight function and the wider operation.
- Maintain a consistently high standard of customer service throughout the shipment lifecycle.
Team Leadership & Development
- Lead, coach and motivate the Road Freight operations team.
- Allocate workloads effectively and monitor team performance against agreed KPIs.
- Provide regular feedback, coaching and performance support to team members.
- Identify training and development requirements and support the ongoing growth of team capability.
- Lead the onboarding and integration of new team members, ensuring they are fully supported throughout their induction.
- Foster a positive, collaborative and high-performance team culture.
Performance & Continuous Improvement
- Prepare, analyse and circulate customer KPI reports.
- Review internal performance data covering areas such as delivery performance, cost efficiency and customer satisfaction.
- Identify trends, issues and performance outliers and implement appropriate corrective actions.
- Monitor individual and team KPIs, using coaching and performance management to drive continuous improvement.
- Identify and implement opportunities to improve processes, productivity and operational efficiency.
About You
The successful candidate will ideally bring:
- 3+ years' experience within road freight, land transport or logistics operations, including at least 1 year in a supervisory or team leadership capacity.
- Proven experience leading, supporting and developing teams within a fast-paced operational environment.
- Strong knowledge of domestic and international road freight operations.
- Experience with customs import and export processes.
- Strong customer service and stakeholder management skills.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and negotiation abilities.
- A proactive, solutions-focused approach to operational challenges.
- The ability to remain calm, organised and decisive in a time-critical environment.
- Strong organisational and prioritisation skills.
- Experience using transport management systems and Microsoft Office.
- A strong understanding of operational KPIs and performance management.
- A continuous-improvement mindset, with the ability to identify and implement more effective ways of working.
