About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Automation Engineer to join a leading biopharmaceutical manufacturing site in Dublin for a 12-month contract position. Working as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) and System Owner, you will report to the Operations Technology Director and play a key role in sustaining, troubleshooting, and optimizing process automation systems in a GMP-regulated environment.
This role offers a strong mix of technical ownership, continuous improvement leadership, and project execution across fill/finish and API operations with flexible hybrid working.
Key Responsibilities
- System Ownership: Act as the technical lead and administrator for process automation systems, overseeing lifecycle management, backups, disaster recovery, and user access controls.
- Operational & Compliance Support: Lead root cause analysis, incident investigations, and troubleshooting for PLC, SCADA, and PCS systems to ensure continuous, compliant production.
- Project & Upgrades Leadership: Manage small-to-medium automation upgrade projects, including design criteria, configuration changes, commissioning, and qualification.
- Quality & Validation: Manage change controls, non-conformances, and CAPAs in accordance with GAMP5, FDA 21 CFR Part 11, and EU Annex 11 standards.
- Continuous Improvement: Implement obsolescence strategies, review maintenance plans using data-driven assessments (FMEA), and optimize control systems.
Key Requirements
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Automation/Control, Electrical, Computer, Chemical, or Biotech Engineering.
- Experience: 2+ years (5+ preferred) in manufacturing automation within a cGMP biopharmaceutical or API environment.
- Technical Expertise: Hands-on experience with Siemens (PLC, PCS7, WinCC) and/or Allen Bradley systems, SCADA, and industrial networks (Profibus, DeviceNet).
- Standards & Compliance: Working knowledge of GAMP5, ANSI/ISA-S88/S95, and regulatory expectations for computerized systems.
- Networking & Infrastructure: Working familiarity with TCP/IP, Active Directory, and basic OT network security architecture.
