Network & Telecoms Engineer
Location: Cork, Ireland (Full-time, Onsite)
Salary: €60,000 - €74,000 DOE
Position Type: Permanent, Full-time
We are seeking a Network & Telecoms Engineer to join an onsite technical team in Cork. This role bridges the gap between modern IP networking/switching and critical legacy telecommunications infrastructure.
The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience maintaining traditional telecom circuits, voice/PSTN systems, and legacy WAN interfaces, alongside solid enterprise Layer 2/Layer 3 IP networking skills. You will play a pivotal role in keeping mission-critical legacy systems operational while supporting long-term modernization efforts.
Legacy Telecom Operations: Install, maintain, and troubleshoot traditional telecommunications circuits, TDM systems, voice platforms (PBX), and legacy transmission hardware (E1/T1, ISDN, serial interfaces, analogue voice lines).
Enterprise IP Networking: Configure, support, and maintain core Layer 2 / Layer 3 switching and routing infrastructure (VLANs, VRRP, OSPF, BGP).
Telecom-to-IP Integration: Support gateways, media converters, and interface equipment bridging legacy voice/telecom infrastructure to modern IP/Sip/VoIP networks.
Onsite Fault Isolation & Maintenance: Provide hands-on hardware support, rack-and-stack maintenance, cabling, and physical patch management across onsite equipment rooms and data spaces.
Root Cause Analysis & Vendor Escalation: Troubleshoot complex signal, circuit, and routing issues; perform root-cause analysis; and manage escalations with telecom carriers and hardware vendors.
Documentation: Maintain accurate physical/logical circuit schematics, cabling records, and operational runbooks.
Telecoms & Legacy Systems: 4+ years of hands-on experience working with legacy telecom technology (e.g., E1/T1 circuits, ISDN PRI/BRI, TDM, legacy PBX systems, analogue/digital trunking, serial communications).
IP Networking: Solid foundation in enterprise L2/L3 routing and switching (VLANs, STP, VRRP, OSPF, or BGP).
Onsite Engineering: Proven experience working in an onsite operational capacity managing physical network/telecom equipment, patch panels, and circuit handoffs.
Carrier & Circuit Testing: Experience with telecom test sets (BERT/line testing) and troubleshooting carrier-provided private lines or WAN links.
Troubleshooting: Strong methodology for isolating faults across both physical layer circuits (L1) and IP protocol stacks (L2/L3).
Certifications such as CCNP, CCNA, or telecom vendor accreditations.
Experience with VoIP, SIP trunking, and IP-PBX migrations.
Basic scripting or automation knowledge (Python/PowerShell) for network tasks.
