Assistant Design Manager (Full-time)
A growing construction consultancy firm is seeking an Assistant Design Manager to deliver technical leadership and design management support across multiple projects, from inception through construction and handover. This site-based role involves close collaboration with project teams, BIM teams, site staff, sub-contractors, and clients to ensure coordinated design delivery.
Key Responsibilities
Design Leadership & Technical Delivery
- Manage design workload across projects, meeting programme, quality, and standards requirements.
- Oversee QA/QC for BIM and design team outputs; conduct clash detection, model coordination, and integration of discipline models.
- Attend design, client, and site meetings; support site teams by reviewing and amending models/drawings to match conditions.
- Perform field surveys/verification of installed services as needed; collaborate on accurate scope interpretation and installation.
Assistant Design Management Support
- Aid Design Manager in workload planning, resource allocation, and team balancing for design/BIM staff.
- Provide technical guidance, mentoring, coaching, and feedback to technicians; support training, onboarding, and performance reviews.
- Promote best practices in design standards, BIM workflows, and quality processes; drive continuous improvement in department templates and procedures.
- Act as liaison between design team and project teams to enhance communication and accountability.
Requirements
Technical Skills
- Relevant degree in design, drafting, or construction discipline (desirable).
- 5+ years' experience in design-to-fabrication or construction environments, including full project lifecycle delivery.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, and BIM processes; familiarity with Navisworks, Plant 3D, BIM 360, or equivalents advantageous.
- Strong knowledge of building regulations, industry standards, design coordination, and multidisciplinary model integration.
