Job Overview
Our client is seeking a Senior Test Automation Engineer (LabVIEW) to take a technical leadership role within their onsite engineering team in the Midwest.
This position sits at the core of the product development lifecycle and involves ownership of test strategy, architecture and advanced automation systems for embedded electronic products. The successful candidate will provide technical direction, mentor engineers and drive best practice in automated test development across projects.
This is a full-time, permanent, onsite position reporting to the Engineering Manager.
Job Responsibilities
- Lead the development, analysis and documentation of test requirements with cross-functional engineering teams
- Own overall test strategy, planning and requirements traceability using a risk-based approach
- Architect, design and implement scalable, maintainable automated test systems using NI LabVIEW and TestStand
- Define verification methodologies, validation strategies and acceptance criteria for complex embedded systems
- Lead complex troubleshooting, debugging and root cause analysis activities across hardware and software domains
Specify, integrate and optimise a wide range of measurement instruments and communication interfaces
- Drive continuous improvement of automation frameworks, system architecture and development standards
- Ensure compliance with internal quality, safety and regulatory standards, supporting audits where required
- Mentor and technically guide junior and mid-level engineers
Contribute to long-term test automation strategy and engineering best practice
Job Requirements
Essential:
- Minimum 5 years' experience in automated test development for embedded electronic products
- Strong proficiency in NI LabVIEW with proven experience architecting automation frameworks (CLD or higher certification highly desirable)
- Strong understanding of embedded systems, electronics and measurement instrumentation
- Experience with hardware and software interfacing including Serial, I2C, SPI and CAN
- Demonstrated ability to lead technical initiatives and influence engineering direction
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting and documentation skills
- Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams
Desirable:
- Experience with NI TestStand, DAQ systems and advanced instrument control
- Familiarity with Python or other scripting tools for automation
- Experience working with mains-powered or regulated electronic products
- Knowledge of defect tracking and source control systems such as Jira and Git
- Degree in Electronic Engineering or related discipline
