Trainee Accountant Required - Leading Retail Bank - Dublin - 3.5 year contract - Excellent Training Opportunity - Apply Now

Our client a leading retail bank are recruiting for a Trainee Accountant to support the team's finance activities. This is a 3 year and 6-month program, were you will be guaranteed of gaining experience across at least 4 functions within finance.

Your Responsibilities will be:

  • Develop a good understanding of the finance systems, general ledgers, treasury systems, source systems for banking products.
  • Prepare daily reports and analysis of data for posting to the general ledger.
  • Assist in the preparation of the Trial Balance.
  • Reconciliation of the Trial Balance against source systems and bank accounts.
  • Investment accounting and reporting across all categories of asset classes.
  • Support in preparing the notes to the accounts for the annual and interim financial statements.
  • Support both internal and external audit processes.
  • Support the preparation of regulatory returns and reconcile to underlying data.
  • Participate in monthly income and costs reporting for management.
  • Analyse month end variances and investigate drivers of variances.
  • Cost analysis, work with the business units to ensure costs reflect their activity and that they meet budgets or forecasts as agreed.
  • Support the Budget, Forecast and Strategic Planning processes.
  • Participate in ad hoc projects, as required.

Essential to have:

  • Business / Finance 3rd level degree
  • Intention to pursue or currently pursuing ACCA/CIMA/ACA qualifications

  • Strong interest in business, finance, and related matters
  • Ability to take ownership for tasks and work to timelines under own initiative
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Impeccable attention to detail with the ability to identify and raise relevant issues in a professional manner
  • Ability to ask questions, gather facts and challenge effectively when relevant - analytical/questioning approach to underlying data
  • Strong understanding of performance drivers and balance sheet dynamics
  • Solid understanding of financial valuations
  • Strong IT Aptitude (particularly MS Excel)
