Our client's Renewable Energy Business Unit currently has a vacancy for a Legal and Business Services Manager to join the company on a permanent basis reporting to the Head of Renewable Energy.

The successful candidate will be responsible for leading, managing and developing the legal and business services function within Renewable Energy including team development. H/She will drive, support, enable and facilitate the operation and development of the Renewable Energy portfolio, provide leadership to the wider team to contribute to the achievement of the strategic goals, ensure the Business Services function delivers an efficient and effective service and supports the delivery the Renewable Energy strategy.

The Role:
The main duties and responsibilities of the role will include the following:

  • Proactively participate in the preparation of annual budget for the Business Services function.
  • Monitor and report on performance against financial targets, as well as project specific and service key performance indicators.
  • Identify and analyse cost drivers to lower service or project costs and maximise value to the Renewable Energy business.
  • Ensure alignment of the function with annual business planning including the procurement, management, and review of all external advisors to support individual projects and the delivery of the wider business unit objectives.
  • Contribute to the 5-year planning process and actively participate in any funding strategy for the business.
  • Direct and manage the legal and governance work-streams required for the operation and development of the Renewable Energy portfolio of assets.
  • Support the delivery of the business unit objectives and ensure legal advice is obtained where required.
  • Ensure liaison with all key internal & external stakeholders as appropriate to ensure that legal advices and projects are delivered in accordance with timelines and objectives.
  • Ensure and monitor compliance with corporate governance requirements of the Renewable Energy business and liaise with Company Secretary on shareholder compliance matters on behalf of the Renewable Energy business.
  • Work in association with the operations, commercial and development teams to prepare projects for financing by providing structuring advice and solutions.
  • Co-ordinate projects with the Operations, Development, Commercial & Finance functions to identify, analyse and execute the most optimum financing solutions for projects and progress projects through the financing phase to financial close.
  • Ensure the negotiation of key commercial contracts and transactions are managed to deliver on the Renewable Energy strategy.
  • Take a lead role in finding solutions to overcome obstacles and in the management and mitigation of risks.
  • Manage all of the business support services for the Renewable Energy business unit to ensure all functions obtain any required support.
  • Direct and manage any procurement processes undertaken by Renewable Energy ensuring that procurement delivers optimum value to Renewable Energy through its engagement with third party suppliers of goods and services in a regulated environment, while continuously improving supplier performance in a manner fully compliant with procurement process.
  • Manage the HR function to include HR strategy and delivery of effective HR operational support throughout all stages of the employee life cycle including recruitment.
  • Contribute to HR strategy for Renewable Energy and ensure alignment with group policy and procedure.
  • Recruit and establish the Renewable Energy business services team and lead the professional development of the team by actively coaching and mentoring the team members to ensure a high performing and effective team.
  • Identify people with potential and create tailored development plans to ensure effective succession planning can take place.
  • Create opportunities for team members to develop and acquire business critical knowledge and skills to ensure the effective delivery of relevant services to the business.
  • Lead and Performance Manage your direct reports and embed the Leadership Standards within the team.
  • Create a Culture of high performance within the team, operational excellence, and continuous improvement.

  • As a key member of the Senior Management team, proactively use the Performance Management process as a means to support resource planning within your team and the wider organisation.

The Person:
The ideal candidate will possess the following qualification, skills, knowledge and attributes;

  • Qualified Solicitor or Barrister;
  • Business Management experience desirable;
  • 10yrs Post qualification experience;
  • Experience managing a large department or equivalent and governance aspects of large projects/transactions;
  • Proficient in MS Office suite;
  • Previous experience in the energy sector with excellent knowledge of energy markets and the key principles of project development and operations within the sector;
  • Negotiating and influencing skills required to support the project teams in delivering the BU's strategic objectives.
