The Quality Control Manager has responsibility for the management of Chemical and Microbiological Laboratories on site, including all aspects of laboratory management - health and safety, personnel, testing internal and external.
Management of the Microbiology/Chemistry laboratories
Responsibility for the Health & Safety (H&S) standards within the laboratories
Ensuring all testing is performed in accordance with relevant procedures
Management, training and development of all Quality Control personnel working in Laboratories
Working with Production, Quality and Supply Chain Departments to effectively prioritise testing of samples from multiple plants on site and from other sites
Maintenance of the site Environmental Monitoring and contaminants programmes
Management of Certificate of Analysis (CoA) generation for the site
Responsibility for maintaining compliance with internal and external standards and demonstrating this compliance in customer, regulatory and site accreditation audits
Develop, revise and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs)
Point of contact with external laboratories for the sourcing and assessment for suitability of any external testing required and the tracking of any ongoing testing to completion
Responsible for continuous improvement within the labs in relation to systems, good laboratory practices (GLPs) and people management
Upkeep and maintenance of the equipment used in the Laboratories
Responsibility for laboratory performance data, reporting and presenting this data to site management on a monthly basis
Accountable for ensuring that the QC Department remains within budget and meets the requirements of any cost saving initiatives on site
Ensure timely completion of laboratory investigations and deviations using the relevant procedures as they arise.
Qualifications and skills
Minimum Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry or related Science or equivalent
5+ years' experience in a relevant role
Wide-ranging Quality Control experience
Proven success in managing a team in a busy laboratory environment, and aligning individuals and teams to business objectives
Demonstrate competency in the introduction, operation, calibration and qualification of a wide spectrum of analytical instrumentation
Experience in budgetary control and in audit preparation and execution
Continuous improvement mindset, with the ability to work on own initiative or solve problems as part of a team
