Position Summary
The EHSS Specialist will support the implementation and continuous improvement of Environment, Health, Safety and Security (EHSS) programmes across manufacturing, laboratories, warehouses, utilities and support functions within a pharmaceutical manufacturing environment.
The successful candidate will provide professional EHSS support to operations, engineering and project teams, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, corporate standards and industry best practice. The role will contribute to the development of a strong safety culture through risk management, employee engagement, training, auditing and continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Health & Safety Management
- Support the implementation and maintenance of the site's Health and Safety Management System
- Conduct routine workplace inspections, audits and compliance assessments.
- Facilitate risk assessments and ensure effective implementation of corrective actions.
- Support permit-to-work activities and contractor safety management.
- Monitor compliance with applicable health and safety legislation and company standards.
- Promote behavioural safety and employee engagement initiatives
- Support commissioning and qualification activities (PSSR/ Commissioning Walks)
- Support the investigation of incidents, near misses and unsafe conditions.
- Assist with environmental monitoring programmes and waste management activities.
- Support sustainability initiatives and environmental improvement projects.
- Participate in regulatory inspections
- Develop and deliver EHSS inductions and awareness training.
- Support development of safety campaigns and communication programmes.
- Provide EHSS guidance to employees, contractors and project teams.
- Conduct EHSS inspections, internal audits and compliance reviews.
- Support regulatory inspections and corporate audits.
- Generate EHSS reports, metrics and performance indicators.
Qualifications
Essential
- Degree in Occupational Environmental Health & Safety, / Engineering / Science or related discipline.
- Professional Health & Safety qualification.
- Understanding of Irish Health & Safety legislation.
Desirable
- ISO 14001 and/or ISO 45001 experience.
Experience
Essential
- 3-5 years' EHSS experience within a pharmaceutical, biotechnology, medical device or regulated manufacturing environment.
Desirable
- Experience conducting risk assessments and workplace inspections.
- Experience supporting incident investigations and corrective actions.
- Knowledge of EHS management systems and regulatory compliance requirements.
- Experience delivering EHSS training and employee engagement initiatives.
- Experience supporting engineering projects or equipment installation activities.
- Experience with contractor management programmes.
- Experience supporting environmental management systems.
- Experience working within GMP-regulated environments.
- Experience participating in design reviews, HAZOPs, HAZIDs
