This Associate to Vice President-level opportunity focuses on originating and executing complex credit and structured investment opportunities across distressed assets, special situations financing, and alternative credit strategies. Working closely with both domestic and international teams, you will play a key role in sourcing high-value investment opportunities within Japan's evolving credit markets.
Key Responsibilities
- Originate and develop investment opportunities across special situations and alternative credit markets.
- Identify, evaluate, and execute transactions involving distressed and restructured credits, non-performing loan (NPL) portfolios, and real estate-related credit investments.
- Structure and originate special situations financing, including high-yield and leveraged finance opportunities such as LBO mezzanine debt.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with financial institutions, corporate clients, investors, and internal stakeholders to generate new business opportunities.
- Collaborate with global investment teams throughout transaction sourcing, execution, and portfolio development.
Required Skills and Qualifications
Experience:
- Minimum of 7 years of experience within an Investment Bank, Private Equity Fund, Credit Investment Fund, or Turnaround Consulting firm in Japan.
- Strong track record in investment origination, structured finance, or special situations investing.
- Experience working at a Japanese mega bank is highly desirable.
Soft Skills:
- Excellent analytical and financial modelling capabilities.
- Strong negotiation and relationship management skills.
- Commercial mindset with the ability to identify and originate new investment opportunities.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deal-driven environment while collaborating with global teams.
Language Requirements:
- Japanese: Native-level written and spoken proficiency.
- English: Business-level proficiency.
Preferred Skills & Qualifications
- Experience covering distressed debt, restructuring, leveraged finance, or alternative credit products.
- Strong understanding of Japanese credit markets and special situations investing.
- Existing network across financial institutions, corporate borrowers, and investment professionals in Japan.
- Experience working on cross-border investment transactions.
