Join a growing renewable energy company as a Solar Project Developer, taking ownership of ground-mounted solar projects across Japan from initial site origination through Ready-to-Build (RTB) status.
Based in Tokyo, you will manage the full development process, including site identification, land acquisition, landowner negotiations, community engagement, permitting, regulatory approvals, surveys, and local subcontractor management.
You will work on High Voltage (HV) and Special High Voltage (SHV) solar projects, coordinating with landowners, neighboring communities, local and prefectural authorities, subcontractors, and internal project teams to progress projects toward construction.
This is an opportunity for an experienced solar development professional to take direct responsibility for projects while building further expertise in utility-scale solar, renewable energy project development, land acquisition, and permitting in Japan.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify suitable locations and originate new opportunities for ground-mounted solar projects across Japan.
- Negotiate directly with landowners to secure land through purchase or lease under appropriate commercial conditions.
- Introduce proposed projects to neighboring communities and secure the necessary consent for construction.
- Identify, appoint, and manage local subcontractors supporting project development activities.
- Coordinate topographic surveys, boundary surveys, FDP, EIA, and other required development activities.
- Arrange and lead meetings with local authorities to secure permits and approvals required for construction.
- Manage local, prefectural, and national approval processes relevant to solar project development.
- Coordinate multiple development workstreams to ensure projects progress according to required schedules.
- Manage HV and SHV solar project development activities from early-stage origination through Ready-to-Build status.
- Identify and address land, permitting, stakeholder, and development issues that could affect project delivery.
Required Skills and Qualifications
Experience:
- 4 to 5 years of experience as a solar project developer.
- Experience developing ground-mounted solar projects from an early stage in the Japanese market.
- Experience negotiating directly with landowners for land purchase or lease.
- Experience obtaining community consent and managing local, prefectural, and national project approvals.
- Experience managing development activities for HV and SHV solar projects in Japan.
- Experience coordinating project development activities across land acquisition, permitting, stakeholder engagement, and construction readiness.
- Valid driver's license.
- Bachelor's degree.

- Strong negotiation skills for working effectively with landowners and other project stakeholders.
- Excellent communication skills for engaging with local communities and government authorities.
- Strong stakeholder management capabilities for coordinating landowners, subcontractors, authorities, and internal project teams.
- Ability to independently manage multiple project development workstreams, priorities, and timelines.
- Strong problem-solving skills for addressing land, development, permitting, and stakeholder issues.
Language Requirements:
- Japanese: Fluent level.
- English: Basic level.
Preferred Skills & Qualifications
- Experience progressing solar projects through Ready-to-Build status.
- Experience managing local development subcontractors in Japan.
- Experience coordinating topographic and boundary surveys.
- Experience with FDP, EIA, and other renewable energy permitting processes.
- Experience developing both High Voltage and Special High Voltage solar projects.
