An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced Senior Legal Counsel to join a global healthcare technology leader in Tokyo. Working closely with senior business leaders, you will provide strategic legal guidance across commercial, operational, and corporate initiatives while helping shape business decisions in a highly regulated industry. This role is ideal for a commercially minded legal professional who thrives in a collaborative international environment and enjoys partnering with executive stakeholders to drive business success.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic legal advice to senior business leaders on commercial, operational, governance, and corporate matters.
- Draft, review, and negotiate a broad range of commercial agreements that support business growth and strategic initiatives.
- Advise on regulatory compliance, competition law, corporate governance, and enterprise risk management.
- Lead complex cross-functional legal projects involving multiple business units and regional stakeholders.
- Develop and deliver legal training and compliance programmes that strengthen organisational capabilities and risk awareness.
- Manage relationships with external legal counsel while supporting dispute resolution and litigation matters when required.
- Partner with leadership teams to balance legal, commercial, and operational risks while enabling sustainable business growth.
Required Skills and Qualifications
Experience:
- Qualified lawyer in Japan or another major jurisdiction, with Japanese legal qualification preferred.
- At least 5 years of post-qualification experience handling sophisticated commercial legal matters.
- Proven experience partnering directly with senior executives and advising business leaders on strategic legal issues.
- Strong expertise in commercial contract negotiation, legal risk management, and corporate advisory work.
- Experience within healthcare, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, life sciences, or other highly regulated industries is highly desirable.
- Experience supporting multinational organisations and leading cross-functional legal projects is an advantage.
- Background managing enterprise-wide legal or compliance initiatives is preferred.
