A leading global travel technology company is seeking a Legal Counsel, Japan to provide independent legal support for its Japan operations. This role will cover commercial and compliance matters while collaborating with global legal leadership. It offers the opportunity to play a key part in shaping policies, supporting dispute resolution, and ensuring smooth operations in a highly dynamic international environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Draft, review, and negotiate commercial contracts in Japanese and English.
- Advise on compliance matters including data privacy, consumer protection, and tourism law.
- Conduct legal risk assessments and support customer complaint resolution.
- Provide guidance on labor law matters in collaboration with HR.
- Standardize legal processes and deliver training programs for internal teams.
- Work closely with regional legal leadership and participate in cross-border coordination.
Required Skills and Qualifications
Experience:
- Minimum 5+ years in legal practice, either in-house or at a law firm.
- Strong understanding of Japanese commercial law and labor law.
- Background in B2C industries such as travel, e-commerce, or technology is a plus.
- Ability to operate independently with strong ownership and accountability.
Language Requirements
- Japanese: Fluent proficiency.
- English: Fluent proficiency.
Preferred Skills & Qualifications
- Bengoshi qualification welcomed but not mandatory.
- Experience in policy building or cross-border negotiation.
- Familiarity with dispute resolution procedures.
