Head of Investment Banking Japan | M&A & ECM | Tokyo

A leading global investment bank is seeking an accomplished Head of Investment Banking (IBD) Japan to lead its Investment Banking Division in Tokyo.

This executive leadership position offers the opportunity to drive the firm's Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A) and Equity Capital Markets (ECM) business across Japan. You will lead client origination, execute high-profile cross-border transactions, develop strategic relationships with corporate leaders, and build a high-performing investment banking franchise.

This role is ideal for an experienced Managing Director, Head of Investment Banking, M&A Banker, or ECM Executive with a proven track record of delivering complex transactions and leading successful investment banking teams in Japan.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the overall Investment Banking Division (IBD) strategy and business development across Japan.
• Originate and execute complex Cross-Border M&A and Equity Capital Markets (ECM) transactions.
• Develop and maintain trusted relationships with CEOs, CFOs, boards of directors, and senior corporate executives.
• Identify new business opportunities and provide strategic financial advisory solutions to corporate clients.
• Lead transaction execution from origination through negotiation, due diligence, documentation, and successful completion.
• Collaborate with global investment banking, capital markets, industry coverage, and product teams to deliver integrated client solutions.
• Mentor, coach, and develop high-performing investment banking professionals.
• Represent the firm in the Japanese market while contributing to regional and global growth initiatives.

Required Skills and Qualifications

Experience:

• Minimum 10 years of Investment Banking Division (IBD) experience within an investment bank in Japan.
• Proven experience advising on Cross-Border Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A) transactions.
• Strong Equity Capital Markets (ECM) execution and advisory experience.
• Demonstrated success managing senior corporate client relationships and originating investment banking mandates.
• Deep understanding of Japan's corporate finance, capital markets, and regulatory environment.
• Proven leadership experience within an investment banking platform.

Preferred Skills & Qualifications

• Experience leading an Investment Banking or Corporate Finance team in Japan.
• Established network with major Japanese corporates, financial sponsors, and institutional investors.
• Experience working in a multinational investment banking environment.
• Strong understanding of Japan's capital markets and evolving cross-border investment landscape.
• MBA, CFA, or other relevant professional qualifications are advantageous.
